ACGA To Become ANSG

Dear Friends of Atlantic Canada Geocaching Association,
You are probably aware that there have been many changes in ACGA over the past several months. A dedicated team of volunteers has been working behind the scenes to move forward with the changes.
After much discussion and reflection, we have decided to refocus the organization. The existing name no longer accurately identifies who we are. It’s not really Atlantic focused. Cache Up NB has its own very strong brand and identity. They strongly represent NB and have a huge following. PEI, while they don’t have a name, has a strong group led by El Nimrod. Newfoundland, despite our approaching and trying to engage them, haven’t been responsive. You can’t blame them though, they are geographically isolated.
Given these facts, we have applied for incorporation as a Not-for-profit in the province of Nova Scotia with the legal name of Association of Nova Scotia Geocaching. You may have already seen the Facebook page and website. If you have not, they can be found here: www.facebook.com/nsgeocaching and www.nsgeocaching.com. We’re also on Twitter: twitter.com/nsgeocaching.
All former ACGA caches have been adopted to the ANSG account (“NS Geocaching”), reverted back to the original cache owners, or archived.
In the coming weeks, all ACGA correspondence will be redirected to the new sites. Support will be discontinued for all old ACGA personal emails and they will be suspended. Further details on plans and timelines will be announced through both the ACGA and NSGeocaching websites and social media sites.
We will continue to partner with our provincial neighbours to educate about and promote geocaching in Atlantic Canada.
Our goals are to promote NS as a geocaching destination, and to educate the public about safe, ethical, drama-free geocaching. The most popular request we receive is for informative presentations at schools, in parks, and for community recreation departments. With that in mind, we need a team of like-minded volunteers to help make this happen. Requests come from all over the province. March 16th Update
Further to our announcement on March 15, here is the sequence of events as they are planned:
April 1st – 7th, 2015
– The website atlanticgeocaching.com will be “frozen”, and all forum accounts will be made read-only.
– All relevant content from the website, including the forum will be converted to PDF and made available on the nsgeocaching.com website or at an alternate location, linked from the nsgeocaching.com site.
– Emails to ACGA will be redirected to nsgeocaching.com
– April 30th, 2015
Website will be turned down, and pointers will redirect visitors tonsgeocaching.com
Domain names currently registered will remain registered indefinitely.
Please provide any input to the new association website, content, ideas or feedback via the nsgeocaching.com website.
Please note that all “@atlanticgeocaching.com” email addresses will be retired as of April 7, 2015
I’ve added a minor update posted to their FB page to the end of this post.
Not really surprising for two reasons: 1. as geocaching has exploded in popularity, the provincial geocaching communities have grown considerably over the last few years, necessitating their own, locally-focused geocaching groups, and 2. the ACGA has always felt a bit more “NS” for a number of years. However, it is still disappointing to see what has happened to both the MGA and now the ACGA.
