Bragging Up NB- Paulie’s Windmill Series

Welcome to Cache Up NB’s new series of stories that will be focusing on series of caches from old and new cachers here in New Brunswick.

For the first story will be discussing the Windmill Series placed by Paulie in southern NB. The reason we are starting here is because Zor and I recently made a couple trips up there in the past few weeks in an effort to get our numbers up before the Mega and it is fresh in our memory. This series, along with a bunch of other caches from other cachers, is located in the area know as the Kent Hills and is home to close to 50 windmills which provide plenty of renewable energy for the province. To access the caches it is easiest to start from Prosser Brook Rd off of route 910 also called Turtle Creek Rd. See the attached picture below for a view of the abundance of caches located there and the place to start would be at  GC4JT78 a Hillbilly Bob cache in the top right hand side of the picture.

Windmillcaches

This series is made up of mostly park and grabs with a few side trails made up of some older caches or some of the many caches along the Dobson Trail that cuts through the middle of the windmills and will definitely be another series we will highlight at a later date. The roads in here are passable to any type of vehicle and is open all year round but it is not recommended in the winter unless you have 4 wheel drive as it is slippery and snow packed. Most of the caches are within 30 meters of the road and vary from micros to small. I would also suggest turning on your tracking in the GPS to make sure you find your way out or you may travel down a road you already cached, it can get maze like up there. Mid summer is probably not the best time either as the roads are dusty, it is hot and the growth along the side of the roads is thick, tall and thorny. Here is a picture of one of the windmills taken with my Magellan 710’s camera.

If you plan on doing this series it will take all day or even two trips to get them all and if you do I would suggest bringing along a few spare micros and logs sheets to replace any broken or wet caches but don’t leave a throw down just because you can’t find it ;). I recommend this series as it is easily accessible, park and grabs so you can spend as little or as much time as you want and there are some nice views and other short hiking trails nearby if you want to get a bit more exercise. If you haven’t already done this series you should.

  • I’m still planning to go out and snag a pile more of these before the mega. I may not make it to my 5K by then but I will be close.

Great area to be caching and easy caches to snag for some number bumping.
