Capturing The Bay – A Refresher

For some of the newer cachers out there, you may not be familiar with the Capturing The Bay geocoin challenge here in NB. To refresh everyone’s memory on this, we’re re-posting the information regarding this challenge. There are still coins left.

The Capturing The Bay program was launched by Cache Up NB in the summer of 2012. This was a joint partnership between Cache Up NB, Fundy National Park, Hopewell Rocks, Cape Enrage, and the Fundy Trail Parkway. The idea was to try and incorporate some of the most fabulous views and scenery within southern New Brunswick in a unique geocaching program.

Geocachers are tasked with finding a total of eight geocaches spread amongst the four locations. Each geocache location features a prominent vista that showcases our beautiful province. Geocachers find each cache, but must also take a photo at each location. Like the Fundy National Park program, a passport is used to track which geocaches you have found. Once you have completed all eight caches, you can submit your passport to any of the four parks and a coin will be provided to you.

This unique program is a first in the province and the launch event proved to be very successful. Cache Up NB will continue to partner with these great parks to bring you further geocaching adventures.

  • Thanks for the reminder. I have found 4 of the caches but have not gotten the chance to get to the other 2 locations. Maybe this summer….

  • Looks like a weekend thing to do. I just downloaded the passport and only see seven caches. Fundy National park is missing one. Is this a freebee?

      • Never mind. I found a better version of the passport and updated the link above.

    • After all this time I never noticed the fact that the passport was missing a cache. Use the GC bookmark listing in the story above to make sure you have all of the caches. I’ll see about trying to get the passport fixed.

  • Re the Fundy Park missing cache. The cache at the top of the hill entering the Park was disabled during the recent road construction last year so Headquarters was stamping the passport anyway.

  • I finished the requirements for the capture the bay passport and just picked up the coin while at Fundy. What a nice coin!

  • Looking at this as a multiple weekend quest. Are there still a fair number of coins left, a little pricey for a one weekend attempt.

  • Do you know if there are still coins available for this challenge? We are planning a trip to Fundy this summer and all of these parks are on our list so it would be great to add this challenge to our plans, thanks!
