Catamount and Adair’s Nature Trail

Last Tuesday, myself, Markirene, Incepit and Jim52 went out to spend a day hiking and caching the southern most section of the Catamount Trail finding a bunch of Tetagoucher’s caches and doing the Adair’s Nature Trail, finding 8 Ma&Pa caches that did not require any logic. It really didn’t matter to me where went that day because if those 3 cachers hadn’t found them yet I certainly hadn’t found them already and being the junior cacher I decided to video tape the affair for the rest of us to see how the pros do it.

The trail itself has not been maintained in years according to Alonzo Leger, who is very active in the trail system in southern NB. The only way that we really knew that we were still on the trail was by following the blue blazes on the trees which are still quite visible but don’t expect to follow the beaten path because there ain’t none. Tetagoucher had mentioned to us a few nights before we went out that he left enough room between his caches for others to put out a few for him to find next time he is out. I forgot to bring some small or regular caches but I did have 4 micros so I hid them and the other 3 are still waiting for the FTF to get them before they log them. If you watch the video you will see 2 of them and another hiding spot.

In the video you will see the bushwhacking  that we did, about 10km of it and if you see a trail on the ground that is the Adairs section which is a little over 3 km long and there is a way to get to the road at the end if you walk a little further and cross over an old beaver dam. I hope you enjoy the short video and Zor edited it and picked the music, which you have to be careful with because of copyright problems. I am not a professional videographer and only have a basic camera so don’t expect anything award winning.

The song was written and performed by Larry Leblanc and recorded something like 10 years ago or so. For anyone who cares :)

    Loved it.

As you state, the Catamount trail has not been maintained so it is an adventure and a challenge. The Adair Nature trail on the other hand is in good shape and is not strenuous.

I think it’s pretty awesome… Too bad no one talked much about the 6ish beautiful waterfalls. Thanks for the caches guys… Keep them coming. If I knew you guys would have been out all day I would have let you try my night cache. Maybe I’ll have it ready for the event.

Isnt it the best time of the year to be in the woods? I am thinking on doing a part of the dobson soon, kinda hard with a 6 months old around now though :) I may have to postpone it to next year…as long as Didi doesnt end up with another bun in the oven!
Talking about the woods and this time of year, a friend of mine got a 1200 pound moose, 58points, in the Sunny Corner area!
