Favorites: The Highs & Lows
A few years ago, Groundspeak introduced the concept of Favorites.Inspired by some of the non-GSP geocaching websites, this was the first real way to show some appreciation for caches that were truly outstanding. The idea is that after you have found 10 caches, you are awarded a favorite point which you can give to another cache. Caches accumulate favorite points based on how many people actually favor your cache. Generally speaking, the ones with the higher favorite counts are usually ones that are “really nice” caches. Whether it be for the way they were hidden, the location it brought you to, or just some other aspect to the hide.
In NB, the top 5 rated caches by favorite points are:
1 – GC1965
2 – GC3057X
3 – GC11F89
4 – GC353V9
5 – GC3311J
Have you found any of these caches and do you think they deserve to be in the top 5? If not, what caches do you think are the best?
I have found number 4 and agree that this was definitely one of my favourites.
I’ve found 2, 3, 4 and 5. Critter frankly has set a very high standard for creative caches, in my opinion, and after finding his series of wonderful hides in the Sackville area, he has made me want to do better in my own hides.
I think favourite points are a great idea. When I’m going to a new place and am going to go caching, I usually search for caches in 3 ways:
-look if there are any virtual caches nearby (I always do those)
-look if there are any webcam caches nearby (I try to get these when I can)
-sort the caches in the area by favourite points so that I can identify areas I might want to look in
The geocache I have found with the most favourite points is GCK7HH with 704 fav points! Here are my top 10 caches found, listed by fav points (interesting that half are virtuals/webcam):
1. GCK7HH, London, UK (704 pts)
2. GCHKWJ, Québec (309 pts)
3. GCBBA, Nova Scotia (289 pts) – first in Canada
4. GCD838, Ontario (169 pts)
5. GCJFY5, Sydney, Australia (106 pts)
6. GC13ZB7, London, UK (97 pts)
7. GCHXGP, Oxford, UK (95 pts)
8. GC46, Wellington, NZ (90 pts) – first in NZ
9. GC3057X, New Brunswick (85 pts)
10. GC11F89, New Brunswick (80 pts)
Found #1, #2 and #5
found em all. Loved them
I’ve only looked for #4, but the difficulty is accurate. Any favorite I would award would be for the location. I rarely award favorites for placement.
