Fundy National Park Feedback Requested

Now that the 8th year of geocaching in Fundy National Park has kicked off, we can cross off another task on our list for this year. But before we do that, we wanted to get some feedback from everyone regarding their experiences at the park.

Mainly, we want to know what you enjoyed, what could be improved upon, and any other general feedback about this event.

We always hear a lot of people quite happy with how things go but we’d also like to be able to try and learn as much as we can from all of the people who attend this great event.

We do know that some people have asked about longer hikes, and different challenges, and if those are part of what you’d like to see, then please let us know. We are already looking at what will be coming up in the next two years for Fundy so now is your chance to really shine in and let us know how you’d like to see this great event become even better.

Please post any/all comments regarding the Fundy National Park geocaching program below. And once again, thank you to all our volunteers, Anna, the park, and everyone who came out to support this great event.

  • I really liked that I was able to get 5 icons at the event this year. A few suggestions:

    • Indicate on the passport how long you anticipate it will take for someone to complete the challenge, given average fitness. I know we started too late with the Scouts to finish all of the caches before the door prize draw.
    • Incorporate a CITO event as part of the weekend. Given the budget cuts Fundy has experienced in past years, I’m sure they could identify an area of the park that could use the help of 50+ geocachers for an hour or two. I’d propose this to be on the Saturday morning.
    • I think a Wherigo incorporating some of the highlights of Alma, ending somewhere in the park, would be a lot of fun and a neat addition to the weekend. This would probably need to be published well ahead of time so that people could download the game cartridge at home.
    • As previously offered, I am happy to write an Earthcache to add another icon type to the weekend. I already have one completed and one half-finished that I have not tried to get published in case you want to incorporate them into the weekend event. These were created in conjunction with park interpretive staff. Just let me know.
    • Just a small suggestion, but don’t use the exact same coordinates for the caching event and the breakfast, as then they both don’t show up on the geocaching map.

These are all suggestions, I already think the event is great and I know I’ve got a full Scout troop that looks forward to coming every year. We’ll be there even if we need to snowshoe. Thanks again for putting it all together.

  • We did not make the event as my oldest wasn’t feeling well. We went down yesterday and just barely arrived at HQ (at 4:55) in time to grab the coins. Perhaps putting the hours of operation on the passport would be a good idea. There was another group just finishing up the HQ multi and they would have to come back to get the coin another time this summer, or mail in the passport.
