Pa's Caching Tales

How much caching have you done lately – Here is our story

If you read the previous posts of mine, you know that geocaching forms a big part of our lives.  As I explained, geocaching is not just getting out there, it also involves hours at home in front of the computer preparing and learning and solving puzzles and communicating, etc.

The last three days we have been stuck indoors but we had some caching activities: looking at caches for our trips, solving puzzles, preparing cache pages for new caches, corresponding with cachers, etc. With all this indoor time, I started to wonder how much caching we have done over the last while.

I looked back to the end of September when we got back from our UK trip (where we found 70 caches). Since then we have found 1000 caches.  The number seems high but these are often found in bunches. We often contact Chignecto Duo and/or Belladan and plan a day doing a caching series or cleaning out an area out of town.  We often watch the weather and if it looks good, Ma and I plan a little trip for a few days to places like Fredericton or PEI. We take inexpensive hotels and go out exploring the countryside.  We usually get between 25 and 40 caches a day; we could get more but we like to take our time and enjoy ourselves.

I also discovered that we have hid 80 caches since October.  I am sure many are thinking that they are all Micro Logic puzzles and indeed many are, but I was surprised to see that we have placed 24 traditional caches since January. We enjoy placing them almost as much as finding them. Hiding gets you outside on trails, etc, and also keeps you busy at home.  At home you are planning, preparing cache pages, learning html, checking maps, waking up in the middle of the night with a puzzle idea,  researching ideas, preparing containers, doing camo, printing logs, etc.

So caching does keep us busy.

When you start geocaching and love it, it really does become a new way of life. It’s a life-style change for the better, at least for us.

How much caching have you done lately?

Well for us, not a whole lot. Didi was at the end of her pregnancy and was walking like a tired little penguin (actually I am not sure penguins are walking that slow…and dont read “little” in that sentence, you should read “Big” instead).

Although city ”park and grab”s have their positive sides, we way much prefer the caches that requires a bit of walking in the woods, trails, nice scenery, etc. Therefore, not much caching done lately…

… But this is about to change … or is it? …

We are now the proud parents of the cutest little girl on earth!!!!!

On Tuesday I took the afternoon off to go for an interview for a new job. I got home, change, put on a fresh shirt and tie, and when I was about to leave, Didi came to me and said, Honey my water just broke! Goodness! We called the hospital and they said: yep, no time for a shower or anything, you get yourself here now! I was not nervous … but my tie was way too tight, so I ended up having to stop 3 times to throw up in the first km to the hospital. Again, I tell ya, it’s just because of my tie being too tight, I was not nervous at all! LOL. My wife asked if I wanted her to drive, I guess that brought me back to my senses LOL.
Anyway, around 8pm, nothing was moving, so they had to induce her. At 4:30 on Saint-Pat’s day, Didi delivered our first child, a 7pound 14oz little girl!

Once all is settled and we get use to not sleep anymore, we will hit back the trails for caches, and bring her with us. At the first cache we will do with her, we will launch her geocoin, that was given to us by a friendly couple of geocacher from the SaintJohn area, Mud in the Face.

So… How much caching have YOU done lately?

GC# LOL, this one is very funny! 😉
We decided Sophie Elizabeth was better. Sophie for Wisdom, Elizabeth after her mom’s mother.

  • You could give her the middle name “Cache” 😉

Huge congrads! My son went caching with me when he was like 3 months old and now even at two and a half he loves going caching with me.
