Mactaquac Provincial Park Program In Progress
Hello Everyone!
For those playing the Atlantic Battlecache or COAP contest this year, please do not place any new hides along the Mactaquac Provincial Park trail system. Space is limited, and I am currently working with the park to release some new caches in the area. My goal is to have permanent caches, owned and maintained by Mactaquac Provincial Park, stretching end-to-end across the trail system showcasing the great hiking that exists in the park. The release of these caches would coincide with a launch event, loggable on geocaching.com.
This is actually part of my current work assignment with the park.
For anyone interested, the park is open year-round. The west side of the park, where the majority of the hiking trails can be found, is free of charge any season. The east side which has the golf course, campground, and TREEGO, as well as a few nice hiking trails and sledding hills, is open and free to the public in the winter.

Good work forestfauna, nice to see caching friendly parks that are organized and maintained by someone who understands the game.
Thanks Rev. The job itself is not an ideal situation for me, more of a wet behind the ears, fresh out of university type position, and not what my education and experience is in, or where I want my career to go. That being said, I am determined to make it a positive experience all around for myself and the park, and this is one way to do it.
I believe there are tons of caches in the park already and I am not sure there is space for many more. I hope it works out, I love hiking out there.
I was worried about that as well Ken. But looking at the maps, the trail system stretching from one end of the park to the other is pretty extensive, and I envision being able to squeeze in between 8-10 caches. If it is less, so be it. No biggie.

FF, I think as a representative of the park you could contact Cache-tech and tell him that the park is starting its own geocaching programme and that for the time being, as the landowner, you do not want any caches to be published in the park. I would think as the landowner that Groundspeak would respect the park’s wishes.
I did that in Irishtown Park although he forgot and let a few in a couple of years later. There is sensitive areas in there but there are no caches in them right now.
I believe there may be a few puzzle caches that end on the trail system within the park, that would not show up on a map. Hopefully they won’t cause too much trouble. As for the other caches, perhaps you could discuss ‘adoption’ with some of the cache owners. This would ensure quality and consistency within the park.

I’ve solved and found them all. So, no worries about where they are for me. GSAK has a nice macro that allows to me to then export them onto a google map.

When I was a child we lived on a farm that is now part of the Mactaquac Park. I am a new cacher and have some ideas for possible cache locations that would provide some recent historical background (from the 1960′s). Would you be open to some input on some potential cache placements and the background to each?
applebjones, I may take you up on that offer. Not for the winter trails hike, but for another plan that may be shaping up for the summer months.
