NB Trails 20th Anniversary Geocaching Program

As many of you know, Sentier NB Trails and Cache Up NB partnered together to release a new geocoin challenge program here in New Brunswick. Yesterday, all of the caches were released and the program is now live.

These caches were hidden with help from Cableguy, ranger170, Madpuck, Snoik, and Belladan. Big time thanks to you for helping launch this awesome program.

Below you will find the official press release from Sentier NB Trails along with a map to show you the basic areas of where the caches can be found and a sneak peak at the coins themselves.

Geocache Locations

Throughout 2014, the New Brunswick Trails Council has been celebrating its special 20th anniversary (1994-2014). Today the organization is proud to officially launch the much anticipated NB Trails 20th Anniversary Geocaching Program. The program features 20 Geocaches which have been hidden along 20 different trails in 20 different communities; a literal province-wide treasure hunt.

Geocaching.com describes the hobby as “a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.”

200 limited edition Geocoins were minted especially for the program. Residents andvisitors are encouraged to participate in the program for their chance to earn or win a Geocoin. All Geocaches were made to be family and beginner friendly, making the program a perfect opportunity to start exploring the world of Geocaching.

“The program is designed to encourage individuals and families to get outdoors and tohighlight the many active living trails in New Brunswick” says Kevin Maillet, Marketing & Communications Coordinator for NB Trails. “You’ll able to find the Geocaches right from your smartphone; a handheld GPS device is not required. Once you find a Geocache, you’ll definitely want to start looking for the next one. It’s an exciting and unique way to get some fresh air and exercise while getting rewarded for it!”

The program was made possible thanks to a partnership made with Cache Up NB volunteers who helped hide the Geocaches throughout the province. Cache Up NB is a news, information, and community based organization focused on geocaching in New Brunswick. They promote geocaching through their website and community based activities. They also provide team-building workshops and Geocoin challenges for organizations interested in leveraging geocaching for tourism and outdoor activities.

  • Good excuse to get on out there. Heading out tomorrow from Freddy Beach up the Trans Canada northbound. Shogomoc, Woodstock, Perth Andover, Grand Falls, maybe keep going to Edmundston, then turn and burn back to Freddy Beach. The next day the Freddy Beach and Oromocto ones and two regions done and coin and the reward of seeing new sights. Thanks for all the placements.

    • Boy that sounds like obsessive behaviour. I really cannot relate to that. LOL

Actually sounds like a great way to spend time. Good luck

  • 830AM left Freddy Beach. 12 hours later and lots of laughs shared on the road back in Freddy. We successfully did it. On the Trans Canada all the way up to Edmundston and back grabbing caches along the way. Well, techincally all the way to Quebec. There is a cache maybe a few hundred feet over the border that we grabbed just to say we made it to Quebec and back today, lol. While in Grand Falls grabbing the series cache there we did the zip line over the gorge, lots of fun! Again, thanks for the series. My best day caching memories wise.

  • 20 years – where does the time go …
Just left the Sentiers NB Trails office with my Geocoin. It was a blast as the Man_Eye, my youngest and formerly known as the IMan, and I searched these out.
The Sentiers NB Trails – Shogomoc Suspension Bridge generated a chuckle. I was fishing there the evening before the cache was published. How disappointed I was that yet another fishing trip was needed (:
The Man_Eye picked up a FTF at the Sentiers NB Trails – Perth Andover cache. And with that FTF came the all too familiar mantra “found it, I’ll give you a chance now dad.”
After grabbing the Sentiers NB Trails – Oromocto cache The Man_Eye and I visited memory lane (for me at least) as we drove around Gagetown, me answering his questions about my time in service.
On our way to Sentiers NB Trails – Edmundston, which was not on our “wander list”, we climbed some rocks, found and crossed yet another suspension bridge, took a quick dip in the river to cool off, saw some Alpacas, visited another covered bridge, repaired a cache and picked up yet another in the March of NB 104th series.
All in all a fun few days … now off to discover a few others in this series and no doubt parts of the province I would remain oblivious to had I not started caching … thanks for the series.

  • Also finished my 8 finds today with the 8th one on the Dobson trail.
Yesterday I did a geocaching trip to St. Andrews and got 4 of them on the trip,
Also got another March of NB 104th series in St. Andrews.
I will try to find all 20 before the end of summer.
Great program. It gets you out there .
    Great series — thanks.

  • The NB Trails geocaching program has gone over extremely well. In fact, 75% of the coins have been claimed already.

Be sure to try and get your passport in as soon as possible to try and obtain your coin. Also remember that even if you have only found a few that they could still win a trackable coin (if any are remaining) or one of the commemorative ones.

There are also still some coins available for purchase through the NB Trails website.
