Riverview Winter Carnival Coin Challenge
It is that time of year again and the Town of Riverview wants to get us out and about around Town to find 5 caches and give 100 of us a free Geocoin. This year the caches will be published on the first day of the Carnival and will be available for pick up at the usual place along with at the event GC685RJ on Thursday, February 11th from 6-8 pm at Five Bridges Bar and Grill on Pinglen Rd in Riverview.
There will be a passport to download and print before the series is published and the five caches will be spread out around Town in many old familiar places. I would love to make it more interesting but since this is the 10th coin challenge it is hard to really find new hiding places and new ideas.
I am thinking about how to make them more enjoyable so maybe some simple puzzles or multis.
Any suggestions?
Puzzles aren’t for everyone (for one reason or another), so I think multi’s would be a great idea, as this is a common cache type that seldom gets a majority of cachers, yet is attainable by all cachers. That’s my two bits 😉
The puzzles would be very easy, very very easy, if I go that route.
The biggest issue we are experiencing with the Riverview caches is that it’s a very limited area. We’ve been doing these geocoin challenges for the town for a few years and there’s only so many places to hide the caches. After a couple of years, you end up using the same places over and over again.
It’s fine to go out and get “new” caches, but it really ends up being just a recycle of the same spots over and over again and when this happens year after year, it gets to be pretty old quickly. At least when trails are re-used it happens over a longer period of time.
Since we can’t hide the caches anywhere “new”, the next best thing to do is to use puzzles or multis. As Rev mentioned, any puzzles would be EXTREMELY easy. We did puzzles at Fundy and made sure they were ridiculously easy to solve in the field.
I suppose we could do a couple of traditionals, a puzzle, a multi and a letterbox and make it a 5 icon experience (if you do the event).
We’re more than willing to entertain any ideas to try and make these recurring challenges more interesting.
