Updates for 2015 Ice Walk event (Feb 7)

Check the cache page for détails of the event.

On a regular basis, the Update section provides updates on ice conditions, on the weather, on the event and on caches. Cachers who have logged a WILL ATTEND will receive email copies of announcements of these same updates. The updates are also posted on Facebook and on the ACGA forum.

Shediac Bay seems ready for the Ice Walk. The recent cold weather has frozen the bay solid and there is a nice layer of snow which gives a beautiful look to the area.   We have spotted ATV’s, snowmobiles and snowshoers and even a truck out on the ice. We will keep watch on conditions and make regular announcements.

We hope to go over to Shediac Island this week to check on conditions and caches. New caches should be appearing over there before the event. We have added information about new caches in our area in the NEW CACHES section of the cache page.

We are  pleased to announce that SPIRIE will be providing a cake again this year. Cableguy will be bringing turkey soup again and Belladan will again be bringing his chicken fricot. And of course there will be chili.

  • *Took a short walk along the coast today. It is a winter wonderland
*We have had 80 cms of snow since Wednesday and now 40 to 50 cms are forecast starting Monday evening. That would be over 4 feet total..
*We snowshoed over to Shediac Island on Thursday with John (cacher Brechan_Paytra_&_Fin). We covered the West and South side, checking caches and hiding new caches. All the caches were in great shape. We plan on going over again tomorrow to finish off.
*A series of 10 new caches came out on Shediac Island and a few more should be out soon. Also see New Caches section on the cache page.
*We have a few pairs of snowshoes to lend, so let us know if you need some.
*Unfortunately Châtelaine cannot join us this year but she is sending her jambalaya. She is also sending herrminnz to help us out again this year

  • We had our Ice Walk #9 event on Saturday. Here is the closing announcement that we posted on the cache page.

Another Ice Walk has come and gone. We always enjoy reading the logs on the event page and this year again it seems that everyone had a great time.

The snow conditions made for some great snowshoeing and beautiful scenery. However the snow did affect road conditions and lowered our attendance of cachers from away.

We wish to thank everyone who helped make this a success. This includes those who did cache maintenance, did the event registration, donated door prizes, worked in the kitchen, brought wonderful food to share and cleaned up after the event. Thank You everyone.

We are already preparing for next year by placing new caches on both islands. Hope to see you next year.

That was the announcement. We are pretty confident about having an Ice Walk next year. On Tuesday we snowshoed to Shediac Island placing 6 new caches. Today we snowshoed to Cocagne Island with John (cacher Brechan_Paytra_&_Fin ) and placed 10 new caches.

    • I really wish I could have made it as I love this event.

Next year will be 10 years and I definitely foresee some special things happening for it.

  • Cableguy is preparing a slideshow of this year’s Ice Walk.

If you have any photos that you would like to share, please add them to your log of the event.

Please note that he plans on working on the slideshow during Sunday’s forecasted blizzard (35-45cms, 50k/h winds)
