Cache Up NB Live Help

So you want to be able to contribute real time updates to Cache Up NB’s “live” ticker? Well, it’s pretty easy, and all you really need is access to a cell phone that can send text messages, and a Twitter account. If you have a smartphone like a Blackberry, Android, Windows, or iPhone device, you can install the Twitter application on your device and use it using the help:

• You MUST have a Twitter account in order to be able to post to the live ticker. Using either a regular cell phone or a smartphone, you send your “tweets” in a specific manner to be picked up by our ticker.
  • If you don’t have a Twitter account, you can create one by clicking here and signing up for one.
• Once you have a valid Twitter account, you can then proceed to send “Tweets” to the live ticker by using a special hashtag: #cunblive
  • If you have a smartphone (like described above), you can install the Twitter app on your phone and use it for tweeting
  • If you do not have a smartphone, but have a regular cell phone with text messaging, you can enable Twitter for your phone by clicking here and adding your cell phone number to your profile
    • You then send tweets by simply sending a text message to 21212
• All tweets MUST contain the #cunblive hashtag in order to be picked up by our ticker. If you forget the tag, it will not be picked up and displayed on our ticker window.
  • Example Tweet: Heading out for a cache run on the Dobson trail #cunblive
• The ticker is in realtime but there might be a few seconds of a delay between when you submit your tweet, and when it appears in the ticker
• All “twitpics” (pictures as attached to tweets) will be auto-displayed within the ticker window
  • Say you take a picture of a cache or trail, and post it to Twitter. The image posted to Twitpic/Yfrog/etc will be shown as a thumbnail in the ticker window and can be clicked on for a full version.
• All items are subject to moderation so anything inappropriate for the website will be deleted by the moderator

NOTE FOR IPHONE USERS!

There is currently (as of March 13, 2011) an issue with the official Twitter app for the iPhone where Yfrog/Twitpic images get shortened to t.co links instead of being shown as images. This prevents them from being displayed automatically in the ticker window. Until this is resolved, we recommend you use another Twitter client such as Tweetdeck for posting to our ticker.
