NB Winter Contest

We wanted to have some type of winter challenge or contest again this year in Fredericton and in our exploring possibilities came across, via the ACGA, a contest that cachers in Saskatchewan ran last year and NS is doing this year. It sounds like lots of fun and is easily expanded so we can include the whole province. We hope to launch it as soon as possible as it will run from Nov 15th – March 15th. We’re working with Zor right now to get everything we need up and running here on Cache Up NB to be able to facilitate the contest.

We ‘ve made some adjustments and tweeked the original a bit to fit our needs and will post all the information for the “NB Winter 2010-2011 Come Out & Play Contest” soon.  Stay tuned!

We're milosheart, also known as Gwen & Terry LeBlanc. We're from Fredericton and have been involved with geocaching since March 2008. When we started caching we each had our own accounts/names. He was Frogger57 and I was milosheart. milo is a nickname of Terry's (from a song he messed up the words to) and, well, I'm his heart (we're still on our honeymoon, 6 yrs on). He logged his first 19 caches then gave up. He loves to go caching, loves the driving, travelling, meeting fellow cachers, searching and finding but could care less about the logging, planning, numbers, etc. He doesn't know how to use the GPS and has no desire to learn, doesn't have a clue what GSAK is, nor care. I love him more for just going with me, blindly sometimes! LOL So we just continued on using my original account and became team milosheart. We cache here in Freddy Beach, Moncton (Terry's hometown), Saint John (my sister and fellow cacher, eebee, lives there) and just about anywhere else we go. Yes, we are addicted. Happily.

  • looking at the rules and such for the NS game this is going to be an awesome challenge!! i like how it’s going to include the entire province.

  • I agree. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun putting on something like this for the whole province.

    Hello Milosheart and Zor

We read with great interest your NB Winter Come Out and Play Contest and the many written comments. Milosheart, we totally agree with your philosophy of having fun and doing something we all love to do during the winter months. Our understanding of this contest is to have fun with certain objectives in mind to keep us focused with a purpose. There seems to be two opposing views to this contest developing, firstly, winning with the purpose of receiving a “prize”, and, secondly, winning with the purpose of the fun of accomplishing set goals with the consequence of winning as the secondary motive. Unfortunately, “competition” at times brings the negative undertones out in some people. In closing, we want to let you know that we appreciate all the work you and Zor have put into this contest for the rest of the geo-caching family to enjoy. Thanks
    Viking43 (Paula and Wayne).

    • The credit really goes to milosheart who has organized all of the rules and tasks and everything. I’ve really just facilitated the use of this site for people to register and do claims. The real credit goes to Gwen for putting it all together.

I completely agree with you Viking. Gwen has done a fantastic job putting this together and I am really glad to see people going out, participating and having fun with it. That being said, I dont think that a little bit of friendly competition should be seen so negatively. It is a contest after all. I am going to go out and have fun, win or lose. But if i can win, all the better. The more people there are to push me along and try to do better, the more fun I will have.

Competition is in no way a sign of disrespect to the organizer. If anything, i see it more as proof of a job well done!!
