What are your favorite New Brunswick caches?

We live in a province where caches are abundant. In fact, some areas are more abundant than others but as a general rule, with more than 8,000 caches in our province, there’s got to be at least a few here and there that stick out in your mind.

Now is your chance to provide some feedback on some of the absolute BEST caches our province has to offer. With so many around us, we should be able to come up with our own list of favorites. Yes, there are favorites within the geocaching website, but this is a chance to put a bit more into it. Here’s what I am looking for from ALL of you.

  • 10 of your favorite traditional caches
  • 5-10 of your favorite puzzle caches
  • 1-10 of your favorite Earthcaches
  • 1-10 of your favorite virtual caches
  • 1-10 of your favorite multi-caches
  • 3-10 of your favorite event/CITO caches
  • 1-5 of your favorite “series” of caches
  • 1-10 of your favorite Wherigo/other
    • This is a catch all for Wherigo and any other caches that you deem appropriate

There are no restrictions on what caches you may choose for your own favorites. They can be active caches or long since archived. However, if you do pick an archived cache as one of your faves, please include an additional active cache as a favorite. The only other requirement is that they have to have been hidden in New Brunswick.

For all of your faves, please include at least a quick one liner about why you consider it a favorite. You can post your answers here (preferably) or contact me directly through my geocaching.com account with your answers. I would request you include the GC code for each cache to make it easier to look the details up. Everyone who gives answers will be contacted by me directly later for more information about your answers.

We don’t often get the opportunity to share about what caches we love the most so this is a good chance for you to let people know what you think are the best caches/events our province has to offer.

All of the data being compiled from this list will be used for a future project sponsored by Cache Up NB. No, this is not an “award” nomination post or anything like that. This is more about gathering as much information about the best caches we have.

So let’s get started. What are your faves?

  • I love this idea. Focussing on the positive rather than griping and moaning is the way to be! My list will be coming shortly, Zor!

  • It was quite hard to narrow my favourites to 10 traditional caches. There are so many. I had to tick off the ones that are my favourites because of the story behind the find: ie like why All up Hill by mud in the face is a favourite to me because it’s how we met that couple; or just two days ago how a Hike for JonnyCache became one of my favourite caching adventure. I narrowed it down the location location location. To Didi and I there are two major factors that make us remember a cache: the location or the adventure we had to get to the cache. I could possibly find another bunch for my favourite hides or containers, but it always comes down to location and story as the best ones that we will remember the most. I concentrated on location for this 10favourite ‘’traditional’’ list. If you want to see more, check out our favourite list under our profile and our logs for those particular caches.

GC103VQ Brittain Falls: I guess I am a little bit biased when it comes down to caches near waterfall as I love waterfalls. The other thing that makes me remember a cache is when it makes us discover an area/site where there is no way in hell we would have set foot if it wasn’t because of geocaching. This is one of those spots. Just a random little stream with tinny little falls, but just so beautiful, and along a road out of nowwhere. We were just starting geocaching then, probably not even 100 find yet, just like 2 months after we got a gps, but I still remember the nice location. Check out the nice pictures.

GC103WK Lonely Souls : This is a cache on top of a hill/cliff where there is a lonely grave in the middle of nowhere. This one too was found not long after we began caching. Another spot where I remember saying to myself: Wow, such cool spot to discover thanks to geocaching.

GC12PHK 30′ Henderson Brook Falls : another falls cache. If I am correct, this one was in big time need for maintenance but the spot was just magnificent. There is no sign on how to get there, hardly a trail. The next thing you know you are just beside a superb waterfall. Now that I think about it I even remember puting a geocoin in that cache; something that I would not do today in a cache that needed maintenance as this one did then.

GC1HMHC A hike for digger1952 ( Up the Friar’s Nose ). This is one I loved because of the hike. This type of cache location is my wife’s favourite. A nice hike with not much more than 1-2 caches to find . I am also biased here for two reasons. 1) it’s near a nice cliff/mountain area and 2)it was my 1000th find! Such a nice place with a wonderful view. RevSlippery made a nice little video of our adventure that you can watch on here.

GCVD8W Bluff View Of The Oxbow: I believe it was either our 200th or our 300th. I remember emailing eebee for advise on this one. I had an old beaten truck then and we used it to climb on a portion of the bluff where we noticed people made little bonfire. The cache was on the other side of a little gorge that we had to cross. We ended up having to climb a very steep rock wall and the view on the river up there was just beautiful. Check the pictures on the cache page.

GC1C4BQ High on a Cliff. This is again just a random geocache but such at a nice location. Again high on a cliff but this time just on the shore. Very nice view of the sea. The waves hit the cliff way down and makes one big sound. Another very nice spot where there is no way we would have found if not because of geocaching.

GC9138 Owens Lake Cave and Underwater River: I just loved that one so much. I went in the small cave a first time but as we had the dogs and Didi had to stay on higher ground with them and could not come in, I just decided not to go for the cache and come back later without the dogs. I ended up finding two caches in there. An older cache that the owner thought was gone and the new one. I was winter or spring so there was all kinds of ice stalamites and spider webs full of ice.

GC1F68W Turtle Mountain: This was our first significant hike for only 3 caches, plus one on the very top. It took us the whole day, but we walked at a relatively slow pace to admire the nature around. I believe the hike to the summit and back was something close to 18km as we had to park the truck a bit further away. What a nice view on top of the mountain. We stayed there for probably an hour and went a bit down where there was less wind for our lunch. This was our 150th find.

GC6D24 The Spectacular Welsford Falls This was our #100th find. I’d be tempted to say still my favourite of all. A must do while it is still relatively in the wild. Although I think that the new highway is pretty much done now and just at a spitting distance from it, which may take a bit of the fun away. This one was around one hour walk back then if I remember correctly. I have a picture of Di right in the falls at the bottom. I took my clothes off (yes in adam’s suit) and swam in the hole on the bottom left of the falls (yes Di took a picture of me, and no Rev you will not see it LOL). I will forever remember this caching adventure.

GC12D66 Paddy’s Stash: We were not expecting a fall or such a nice location there at all. We still had our old gps with only the GC code, part of the name, and of course the coordinates. We were just astounded at the marvelous little stream and falls when we got there. Just a few minutes walk from the highway. This is a real “hidden gem”. Once again not about the cache itself but about the location. There was also some road construction in that area last time I looked. Hopefully this site will remain intact.

I know I will revisit this in a couple of days and tell myself :AHHH, I should have put this one in, or that one, or that other one. Now about the others…

Puzzles: I will start to say I am no puzzle guy. I don’t think that there is one in particular that I can target but there are a few “puzzle series” that I must admit I liked doing. They are: Zonker’s airplane, Belladan’s dogs and Ron’s conifer. All the others I am not really fond of.

Earth caches: In a weird way I am not an earth cache guy either. I like them more than puzzles for sure, but I will not go out of my way to get them. Besides Dorcherster Copper mine GC14EXC that I loved and kept for a milestone (800th), I cannot say that I fell in love with any others. Perhaps it’s because I did not need to read an encyclopaedia to answer the question. 😉

Virtuals: I have virtually nothing to say about virtuals. Pretty much the same as earth caches to me. I would do them but I will not do the extra mile to get one. I only have one in NB and it’s GCA352 Father of the confederation.

Multi: This made me realise we only have 5 multi to this date in 1218 finds. In these 5, there are 2 that are in my all time favourites. Peninsula lights GCKYT7 by redwitch and Walk in the Woods by digger GC1FKNT. Peninsula lights made us discover a nice region of the Kingston Peninsula and one hell of a nice spot where the finale is, and Walk in the woods made me discover one nice trail near Black Beach that (again I will repeat myself) I would have never found otherwise.

Events: Besides the Fundy annual event, our favorite events are by far the one that includes a bonfire. The last one on the Dobson put out by Rev was awsome. I was raining but the fire was going and everybody had a blast (the puzzle burning event). We need to see one in the winter (perhaps there has been some when we were not living down here).

Series: Besides the Lost series by Zor, I will have to refer you to my Puzzle section as the ones I named there are all puzzles. I am a LOST fan and it involved hiking so I liked it very much. I am not a fan of series if there is no fun theme behind it.

Wherigos: I am not going to go there to keep this on a positive note. I will just say that it’s sad that wherigos got forgotten along the way by gc.com. I still have to do Jacob’s bridge though.

  • Traditional Caches (in no particular order);

GCQ633 Walton Glen – Through the eye of the needle
This is a pretty strenuous hike and there are several river crossings, but it’s all worth it. I did this one with a large group a couple of years back and would go again just for the scenery. Breathtaking stuff.

GCW0MR #1 Scout Scenic Series – Slack Cove, Rockport
Basically a park and grab, but just a beautiful spot in a rarely visited corner of the province. This is a place I never would have known about without geocaching, even though it is only a few minutes from my house.

    GCJFDH Vertigo!
Not for the faint of heart (especially if you’re afraid of heights) but definitely a must do if you’re in Bathurst. A little tricky to get onto the catwalk (unless you’re the Rev), but once you’re on it it’s easy peasy – until you have to step off of it again.

GCT8HY The Haunted Statue of Gray’s Island
This cache makes my list for the story more than anything. Although it’s just a micro in a graveyard, it has a creepy feeling to it. It’s best done at night, which is when I did it with a large group after a night caching event back in 2006.

    GC19689 The Labyrinth
Crazy terrain to get to this one – piles of sinkholes, slippery and jagged rocks all over the place. There is no direct route to this cache, even when you’re being guided by the cache owner himself. The view at the end is impressive as well. Just watch every step you take on the way in and out.

    GC1BVC6 Gillman’s Cemetery
I picked this one as a representative of the neat little cemeteries that you can find all over the place, especially if you’re a geocacher. Located on the side of a hill and in between houses, you’d never know it was there – except for geocaching.

    GC27DW9 What’s Up Doc?
This is at the end of the Third Vault Falls trail in Fundy Park. Only strenuous for the last little bit (and of course the first bit on the way out), but the falls at the end are amazing!

    GC1B6D3 Salmon Saga
The longest hike for a cache in Fundy Park, but well worth it. Lots of signs of animals on the trails, and plenty of birds to see for those so inclined (even barred owls if you can make their call sound). The river at the end is beautiful and a great place to have a lunch and just listen to the water.

    GC2V7E9 Wings Over Fundy
Possibly my favourite of the Fundy hikes. Taking either the Moosehorn or Laverty Falls will get you here. The river and falls near the cache are gorgeous and well worth the trek. Be sure to bring a camera for this one for sure.

    GCGBHX Shepody Mountain
This one is worth the long trek up the mountain. You get a panoramic view of Albert Country and the bay. Best done with a group, in my experience. There are plenty of cache on the way up and down as well, to entice you further. A return trip here is on my agenda.

  • Favorite multis:

    GC2B5PT Hey Rev Slippery…SMB multi-style
    …just because of the name

    GC756C Sackville Walking Tour Cache

    GC2179 Bernies Travelling Geocache

    GCG1TR Paint Pots

    GCVCX9 Incognito Pit Adenture
…because I got to watch Rev Slippery flailing about in the thorn bushes with shorts on…

    Favorite Earthcaches.

I love earthcaches, they’re my favorite type by far.

GC12YVD The Old Sow of the Sea
    GC1027B Cape Breton Coal
GC15WW0 The Eye of the Needle
GCM2CK Madison Boulder Earthcache (my all time favorite cache)
    GCNP8D Dinosaur Footprints Earthcache (awesome)

  • As for Wherigos, I am not a fan, but two good ones are:

GC2G1EQ Rise A Knight (now archived)

    GC2HJMA Riddle Me This

  • Favourite Multis;

    GCVCX9 Incognito Pit Adventure
Lots of fun here, several different containers and hides. The hints are also mixed up, so you never quite know what you’re looking for.

    GCKX6A Inner Head Rock Hunt
Great multi that was almost gone, but rescued by kd cachers. Involved a bushwhack, some scrambling up and down steep places and a rope. Great view from here as well.

GCJJZJ Hopewell Cape, A look into the past
Another great multi down in Albert County. Final location is historic and quite neat. Involves a bit of a slippery scramble with a rope, but well worth it. I wouldn’t do it alone, just in case.

    GC2BGGV Scope it Out
This is a terrific multi done by critter431 in Sackville and probably one of my overall favorite caches. Doesn’t take too long, but it is definitely a different kind of multi. Worth the trip to Bagtown just for this cache.

    GCGBH7 Three Waterfalls
A rarely done multi in Albert County, but I don’t quite know why that is so. All three spots take you to a different falls in the same general vicinity. The first and second spots make it worthwhile, even if you somehow missed the caches (which you wouldn’t).

    GC756C Sackville Walking Tour Cache
An old school multi involving math and finding different historical places in Sackville. Final location is neat as well and there are plenty of caches around the town whether you’re walking or driving.

    GC2D99 Puff the Magic Dragon
The oldest multi in NB and one of the oldest caches overall in the province. Takes you to some interesting places, but the best part was hearing Rev complain so much about the time it took. Not that it mattered. Final location was pretty neat as well.

  • Favourite Puzzle/Mysteries;

    GCWPZ6 Mountain Trilogy Third (difficult)
Likely my favorite cache. Not a traditonal puzzle as you have to do two projections, one from each of the first two caches in this series. Getting here involves a couple of kilometer bushwhack up a mountain. It’s rated 5/5 for good reasons, but is well worth it.

    GC2MWBC Through the Airwaves
Using fancy shcmancy technology that restricts it from some users, Zor once again provides a different way of caching to the local cachers. Very neat idea and a quiet out of the way final, right in the middle of town.

    GC12RP2 Eveil Puzzle X2
Evil puzzle is right. What I liked best about this cache was the final location. Hillside cemeteries are always very interesting and this one was very cool.

    GC2EWG3 Listen For Trouble
Took some thinking, but it really was a neat idea. Who wouldn’t want to listen to that melodious voice?

    GCV1HB Brain Bender
So many of the first puzzles we did were by Zonker, although many of them are now archived. This was one of the easiest puzzles, but I still laugh when I read the cache page.

GC19Q43 Mystery of Captain Kidd’s Pirate Map
One of the coolest puzzles I’ve done, and I’m now closing in on 500 finds on these caches. Very cool location and just all around a neat time. Don’t forget to read the page and take what you need with you!

    GC1YT06 Quebec Nordiques
I just liked this puzzle because they were my favourite team growing up. Maybe they’re the next team to come back?

  • I don’t mean to keep hogging this thread. Sorry 🙂

    Favourite Virtual, Earth Caches and Whereigo;

    GC11F6 Underground Lake (virtual)
Not easy to get to, but well worth the trek. It’s also an earthcache location, so it’s two for the price of one. Incredible spot and was our first big milestone (find 1000).

    GC82C4 Albert County Caves (virtual)
I’ve only doen two virtuals in NB, and I don’t think there are many more. This is another very neat location, and the hike is much less strenuous than the hike to the underground lake.

GC15580 Thar’s Albertite in Them Thar Hills (earthcache)
I didn’t know about albertite until I saw this earth cache. It’s very neat historically and the spot also may have fossils if you’re very lucky. If you have time, it’s worth searching around to see what you can find.

    GC11F89 Hopewell Rocks Earthcache
What would an NB list be without the famous flower pots?

    GC159WK Norton Fossil Forest
This is an absolutely cool place. Right on the highway and boom! Fossil trees. Neat geological history a plenty in this area.

    GC1MJP0 Jacob’s Bridge (whereigo)
This was the first whereigo I tried although until this week, I didn’t have a gps that would allow me to do these caches. I enjoyed the concept of this type of cache, although it seems like a lot of work goes into them and they don’t all work that smoothly. I might add to this list after this week.

  • I by no means have a complete list (yet) but I’ll throw what I have now into the mix.

GCXP52 – #1Scout’s Sno White Cache – I really enjoyed the set of figurines (when they were there) and for me, this was one of those caches which I tried to find once but didn’t know the area very well so I ended up coming back (when it wasn’t winter) and snagged it. Good memory for me.

GC8C24 – Albert County Caves – Great location and really enjoyed the whole area

GCGTRT – Bridgedale Multi – This was a multi that I had heard about for a long time and was very happy to finally cross it off my list.

GCVWFJ – Movie Madness – This was a cache I found by brute force and not solving any puzzles or watching any movies. Showed me there is more than one way to find a puzzle cache

GC19Q43 – Ron’s Pirate Cache – By far the most fun I ever had doing a puzzle.

GCGBH7 – Three Waterfalls – GORGEOUS spot which I have been back to since. Had no idea it existed and am so glad I found it.

GC11F6 – Underground Lake – Went here long before I ever started caching and everytimne I go, I still enjoy it.

GCKX6A – Inner Rock Head Hunt – Had a blast doing this with Paul and Ron. Really liked the scaling down the cliff and climbing back up.

As far as series of caches go, the A-Z series and the Star Trek series are both ones I enjoyed.

Enjoyed Nemo’s Rise A Knight Wherigo as it was the first one in the area that wasn’t written by me.

I’ve got more to add to this list but this is a start

  • My favorite event/CITO caches…

http://coord.info/GCWCTR – A Prelude to Summer BBQ #2 by emacx
My very first event and the absolute best! There was everything you could ever ask for… Well organized activities, a five star BBQ and incredible prizes. I won a Brier Island Whale & Seabird Cruises and a 12 piece chicken meal. AWESOME!

http://coord.info/GC13V50 – Descent Into the Eye of the Needle by Zonker&co
Possibly one of the best organized hike into one of the greatest places the Province has to offer. The day started with breakfast at Adair’s Wilderness Lodge an absolute incredible place deep in the woods.

    http://coord.info/GC1ZDDY – Breakfast at Cherry’s by Georard
My favorite meal events are those that have breakfast. Just simply a great location with great food and great people.

http://coord.info/GC21GCA – Breakfast at Jives by milosheart
A very nice venue and my favorite meal of the day. The warmth and hospitality of the Fredericton Geocachers is the best by far.

http://coord.info/GC243KH – Bye Bye Winter Flash Mob by Coopsquared
Flash mobs are great and when Coopsquared does an event there is always that something extra that will put a smile on your face.

http://coord.info/GC24AY8 – Hello Spring Brunch by milosheart & Scouter Rick
Brunch may be the best of two meals and this event is the best of the best!

http://coord.info/GC2BQKD – Sip at Tims by ZeMartelo
An event that lasted well past midnight with great coffee and good buddies.

    http://coord.info/GC2P0W1 – Breakfast at Vito’s by kfdcanada
What can I say I enjoy a good breakfast and this venue is very nice.

http://coord.info/GC24GFZ – Bye Bye Winter CITO by TreeHugger21
Geocachers adopting a highway… Does it get any cooler than that?

    http://coord.info/GC25KK4 – Geocacher’s Breakfast by CuriousbyNature
My favorite Town, Meal and Girl 😉

  • My favorite earthcaches…

    http://coord.info/GC159WK – Norton Fossil Forest by Aero-geologist
A very cool spot on the side of the highway that we drive by ever day and if not for Geocaching we may have never known about this place. Just simply high quality fossils of trees and such from many years ago.

http://coord.info/GC15WW0 – Eye of the Needle by Jim52
The remoteness and just awe of the powers to sculpt the earth. Also not to far from my favorite trail, The Fundy Footpath. Hikers and outdoor enthusiast have been making treks up here for many years and sadly many do not Geocache. 😉

http://coord.info/GCQJT7 – The St Martines Caves by Red Witch
Exploring caves alongside of the Bay of Fundy which has the highest tides. This may be in a popular place but I would say maybe the most overlooked. Possibly my favorite corners of the Province and the best place to spend a sunny afternoon.

http://coord.info/GCMTK7 – The Petitcodiac Tidal Bore Earthcache by Caching for the Fjords
Locals nickname this place the total bore but to me it’s totally cool how the tide can push a wave for miles. What makes it realy neat is that you have to be there at just the right time to witness this and it only happens maybe twice a day.

    http://coord.info/GC11F89 Hopewell Rocks by dragonflys
One of the Provinces most visited tourist attractions but still is pretty cool. A must visit for those who want to experience walking on the ocean’s floor and see for themselves the power of the tides.

  • My favorite “?” caches…

http://coord.info/GCJCGE – All Locked Up! by Insp Gadget
My first puzzle but still a memorable cache. It’s not everyday you find a cache with a combination lock on it and you must drive around the city to find the combination.

http://coord.info/GCQ6QD – Spooky Reflections by Insp Gadget and CacheRJoe Another first for me but this time it was a night cache. It was spooky but very fun. Best of all it ended with a nicely stalked ammo can.

    http://coord.info/GCR6QK – Tri-State Bathurst by Jim52
Pretty much the only puzzle I can solve on my own. I really enjoyed doing this one from start to finish.

http://coord.info/GC1TWCZ – The Crow Cemetery by AJLong
The perfect cache for an old Cemetery. This is my idea of the perfect way to have a cache near a cemetery as it forces you to stop and take a moment to explore.

http://coord.info/GC234ZP – Spring Peepers by Coopsquared
An enjoyable night cache in a great location. There are many others in the area but this one stood out to me for some reason.

    http://coord.info/GC2JTZC – A Tribute to Tri-State Bathurst by Jim52
How could I not like the tribute to the cache I have already listed here. Enjoyed the final location as it took you to an area newly developed for use to the public. It is also neat that it is was one of many caches that forms the shape of “Jim52” on the map.

http://coord.info/GC1ME5V – Pink Panther Mystery – The Missing Jewels by ron568 This one is my absolute favorite puzzle cache. The work put into setting this one up is very much appreciated. Every clue and hint had a new twist and was very enjoyable.

http://coord.info/GC1QBED – Scoudouc Industrial Park Bypass Mystery Cache by Belladan I normally don’t like caches that force you to collect clues from other caches but as this one didn’t make me go back to caches I had done before it was very enjoyable. The final container was also very nice a job well done.

http://coord.info/GC1MX03 – Pink Panther Mystery – Who Dunnit? by ron568
Nearly as good as the other one of ron’s that I listed here. A great cache that I’m sure everyone would enjoy.

http://coord.info/GC11D4X – Eye Spy Sussex Murals by Tetagoucher
Yes I am that type of person who would promote my own cache but why not? I realy enjoyed setting it up and I felt this would be an enjoyable cache for every Geocacher. I should give credit to Timbit for helping me set it up by staring at the murals for hours with me.

  • My 10 favorite traditional caches out of many more…

http://coord.info/GCM78B – Another view of Sheephouse Falls by Insp Gadget
A beautiful place far up some logging roads. Also a nice little place for a picnic or a little stroll to possibly the Provinces smallest covered Bridge.

http://coord.info/GC14DBH – Breathtaking Walton Glen Canyon by The Major Family – Absolutely Unbelievably Breathtaking!

http://coord.info/GCG284 – Calling Doctor Livingstone’s Bluff by Doctor Livingstone adopted by Red Witch – Always a beautiful view and a fairly gentle climb to the top.

http://coord.info/GC2A83G – Crowe Brook Covered Bridge by avardmac
Such a cute little covered bridge just wide enough for all terrain vehicles.

http://coord.info/GC1YXGN – (Unknown) Waterfalls – Catamount Trail By Tetagoucher – One of many Beautiful Falls along this section of the Catamount Trail.

http://coord.info/GC298Y3 – The Way I Wrap Christmas Presents by ajlong
The most enjoyment I have had from a cache container. All smiles!

http://coord.info/GCMVVZ – Armstrong Brook Falls by Tetagoucher
A beautiful little falls that many locals don’t even know of.

http://coord.info/GCVVPH – Parlee Brook Natural Amphitheater by The Major Family – Best seen in the wintertime when the walls are covered in ice.

http://coord.info/GCHXFV – Tetagouche Falls North by Tetagoucher
The absolute best and mostly unknown view of the falls.

http://coord.info/GC1C8PZ – Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum – Fundy Footpath by Ma&Pa – Just simply a cute set of waterfalls near one of the worlds best footpaths.

    • http://coord.info/GCWQ9W – Merry Pitcher Falls by Deuce On The Loose
Somewhat hard to find deep in the woods but well worth it. Who doesn’t like a falls big or small?

http://coord.info/GCNM5Z – Bygone Railways: Hampton & St. Martins Railway by rxzephyr – Very cool place… You get the feeling you just discovered some ruins somewhere foreign.

      http://coord.info/GCJKRW – Hayward Pinnacle by Jim52
It just doesn’t seem like this rock outcrop would be found where it is. Also a nice view along a trail that doesn’t always provide many lookouts.

I’ve added 3 more to replace the ones of my own… I’m running with the “There are no restrictions…” and making a list of my top 10 favorite geocaches hidden by moi. Why not I say… I’m just that bold and the way I see it, if you can’t like your own caches why hide them? If you wouldn’t want to go find your own caches then why did you hide them for someone else to go find. As I say this I feel like maybe it’s time to archive the lame ones but at the same time we all like numbers…

  • Favourite traditionals:
GCZ3TW A little cache at the Mall by Shadow-Cacher (micro). Great hide in plain view.
GCWQTG Parking Lot Cutie TCDN by VO2WW (micro). The toughest hide I have done. Greatest container I’ve seen.
GCWAVA Lake Utopia Monster by Energizer Bunny and geotrain (traditional cache). Grew up on this lake, heard lots of stories of the monster.
GC15DB Powerage: In the Beginning There Were Errors! by SherpaJeff (traditional cache). A unique way to hide a traditional cache.
GC1CWD8 My Dad’s 49 International Truck by gumby6701 (traditional cache). I’m just a softie for the sentimental ones. Great story. The guy found the old truck his dad drove to work, behind the abandoned garage along route 8. He then used his dad’s lunch box that he took with him to work for over 20 years, and placed the cache in that, inside the truck.
GC2F97J To the Core by Team-Newfie-Trio (micro). Great hide in plain view.
GCG75K – 100ft Cascading South Branch Falls by GeoSlyCa (traditional cache). It’s a nice waterfall, ‘nuff said.
GCKJ8R – On the way to Mount Douglas by St. Marks Scout Troup. The cache wasn’t anything spectacular, but the hike up to the bluff, the view, and the friends along for the ride, make this a favourite for me.
GC289D5 Mullin Stream Falls by Sportsman01 (traditional cache). Great spot, awesome falls, great group of people to cache with, what could be better?
Proposal Falls by Sportsman01 (traditional cache). Great spot, awesome falls, great group of people to cache with, what could be better? Went with a large group to celebrate the Viking’s 5,000th find.

    • One more to the list of traditionals to make 10:
GC1FJ62 Somewhere Along the Line… by milosheart (traditional cache). Great hide, very sneaky. Currenly archived, but they have another similar one nearby.

  • Favourite events:
GC21GCA – Breakfast at Jives, December 2009. This was my 1,000th find, made even more special by the fact that my good buddy Scouter_Rick presented me with an engraved 1,000 finds geocoin, and then had Bernie’s Traveling Geocache (GC2179) shipped up from Halifax to me, allowing me the privilege of logging it first that day.

Any of the Bye Bye Winter Bash events from 2010 (GC248KC) and 2011 (GC2NGCN).

    • That Breakfest at Jives was a great event… I enjoyed that place very much. If I remember correctly, we also all left with a “full stocked” geocache 😉

  • Favourite puzzles:
GC15NJ8 HIL-GOV SU57 FS41G342S by GeoPiel & Muffin (puzzle cache). Fun puzzle, but given my many years spent at UNB, it turned out to be a quick grab for me.
GC1B9Z8 Mactaquac Trails Puzzle by SherpaJeff, HippChick, and Simon (puzzle cache). Fun puzzle that took me through a barely used area of Mactaquac Park.
GCTA8Z 910.285 MI by markirene (puzzle). Love these hides in plain sight. This one had my stumped in so many ways, even when I knew what to look for, until my daughter told me my wife found it on the second floor. There is a second floor?
GCGY8D The Green Mile by Bzzlitery, Holly, and Cindy (puzzle). I had to ask for all kinds of help from the cache owner on this tough puzzle. My wife provided the final piece that allowed me to solve it and make the grab.
GC1GXBA D’OH…romocto by Team_cartouche (puzzle). I’m a big Simpson’s fan. This puzzle was a lot of fun and tested my trivia knowledge.
September 18, 2010 – GC1Z9RH Bartholemew Strumstradt by Sportsman01 (puzzle). Easily one of my all-time favourite caches. This is an awesome night cache, with a great backstory and a fantastic finish. You have to do this cache to understand.
GC2R9C6 Th’ Buggie Brig V 5.0 by Captain No Beard and the Wench (puzzle cache). Very creative, had to find a travel bug which is a key with the true coordinates to the cache, also allowing you to unlock it to sign the log.

  • Too many great caches over a long period of time. Lots of great series of caches and puzzles involving lots of work by great cachers . Many many places discovered thanks to geocaching.

I wouldnt know where to begin.

    • I know you are probably not looking for any smart remarks… However, you can go looking in your list one by one and sort out the good ones. Also, you can sort out the ones that are already favorites by other Cachers on gc.com and there should be a few you would agree with. The last idea would be to sit down and think of some or to conquer with the ones listed here. If after all that you come up with nothing then there is obviously a problem with the quality of caches in the Province. Then again I think you are saying that we have so many good geocaches that you wouldn’t know when to draw the line 😉

  • My Wish List of Traditional Caches…

http://coord.info/GC1F66V – Little Dam Falls Ain’t So Little by The Major Family – Looks like an awesome place. I think Nemodidi would have tears in his eyes with the beautiful falls and great fishing.

http://coord.info/GC123NG – OUTER WOOD ISLAND INDIAN CAVE by RUPIE
I don’t even know where to start but wish I did.

  • I have to put an addition here. GC2BGGV Scope it Out.
It is now my all time favorite. Not because of the locatoin, because of it’s creativity. I will not spoil it here, but just go and do this one and you will understand.

  • Favourite traditionals:
GC6FE8 Mooney’s Ridge. The stone remains of an old gristmill near a waterfall. The cache is hidden about 300m off a paved road and has 26 find in 9 years.
GCJ9Y6 #1 Scout Scenic Series -Yesterday’s Tunnel. A nice old railway tunnel, the only one in the province that has been abandoned.
GC14DBH Breathtaking Walton Glen Canyon. All of the caches in Walton Glen are worthy of a being a favorite the whole area is amazing.
GCVVPH Parlee Brook Natural Amphitheatre. I’ve been to this place many times in all different seasons and find the place awesome, especially in winter.
GCEFC Bay of Fundy. One of the oldest caches on Campobello hidden near Head Harbour Lighthouse, a place you can only visit at low tide.
GC1F66V Little Dam Falls Ain’t So Little. An nice waterfall in the middle of nowhere, just getting there is a challenge.
GCN205 Not Quite Vimy Ridge. The cache is on the way to an old rock carving done by a railway signalman using a railway spike and hammer.
GC2ANYK The Look-out Cabin. The high point in New Brunswick and a really graet hike.
GCPDHY Dying Light -The Fish Fluke Lighthouse. Unfortunately what makes this one a favorite is a lighthouse that has seen better days.
GC123NG OUTER WOOD ISLAND INDIAN CAVE. No one has ever found this cache but we did attempt it once. It is probably the hardest cache in the province but what makes it a favorite is the adventure getting there. The most fun we’ve had geocaching even though we ended up with a DNF.

  • My favorite Wherigo/other

As I have not done any in the Province of New Brunswick and realy just wanted to try and get this going again…

Here are two of my favorite out of province Wherigo/other caches.

    http://coord.info/GC32XHM – GPS Adventures Exhibit/Ontario Science Centre
Was a great hour spent lost in a maze with my wife. In the end we walked away with smiles on our faces and another smiley added to our profiles.

http://coord.info/GC289TG – Locks of the Shubenacadie Canal by goldsy
Very nicely done and a great tour of the lift locks in the area.
