Caching Around Moncton

What I mean here is caching just outside of Moncton. Our busy lives and our caching streaks and other caching challenges often keeps us all in town doing urban caching. Looking at a caching map of the area will show a lot of caches have been added in the last few months on the outskirts of the city. It is nice to go get some caches out of town but not too far away.

So I want to thank the busy cachers who have been putting those caches out. This includes cableguy who has been putting out caches and series all over the place, including the series up off Irishtown Road.. Thanks to E.B.E.51 for the interesting caches north of the city around New Scotland road, and thanks to Misha for his Cove Road series, including the one on the bridge that has lots of cachers mystified.

Thanks to 5beaver and NightBlossom who put out a whole bunch of caches in the Salisbury area for their Saint Patricks Day event. They kept us busy last Saturday. Also thanks to Chatelaine who has number of caches just outside of Riverview.

Thanks to Walden07 for 2 Incredible Multi Caches

And a special thank you to Walden07 who put out a number of caches in the Havelock area. Their caches include traditionals, puzzles and two multis. The containers are top quality and they all show lots of imagination. But I have to especially mention the two multis. They are probably two of the best caches we have ever done. What a great experience. Each one took us and Belladan about 30 minutes or so to do. Each cache had 3 stages the first two of which made you work to get the coordinates to go to the next stage. I wont give any details because it could ruin the fun. We highly recommend that you all go and try them.

The Big 6000

Rumour has it that a certain cacher will be logging number 6000 at the breakfast event in Dieppe on Sunday. Congratulations to……?

Next Trip

We had such a great time caching in California last year that we decided to go and visit our son again this year. I believe he wonders if we are going to visit him or going to do some caching. We leave in two weeks. We are planning on posting a number of stories and pictures, just like we did last year.

What really convinced us to go again is looking at the caching map of the parkland areas along skyline boulevard west of populated area between sanjose and San Francisco

Here is a link to a map that tempted me. Hope it works.

Move the map around to see the hundreds (or is it thousands) of caches that tempted us. We again plan on doing most of the caches on foot, taking long hikes along the trails in the open space preserves and the redwood forests. We are hoping to bring many trackables with us, so if you have any in your possession, please bring them to the breakfast on Sunday or drop them off at the pony express cache at the airport.

Other stuff

Looked outside this evening and saw people at our Bison cache. I went out and said hello to a lady from the Grande-Digue area with two young teen girls who were trying out caching. We had a nice conversation, and they asked for help with the Lobster cache which they had apparently tried a few times without luck. I gave them a big hint. She said that one of her neighbours is cacher MR33

Today was beautiful out so after finding our daily cache we went for a long walk in the west end of Moncton along the trail where Jim has all his puzzles. We bumped into Pikpik who was doing some of Jim’s caches. As usual we had had a nice caching chat.

  • Tomorrow, the Moncton Outdoor Enthusiasts Club is having a 10 km hike on the trails at Cape Jourimain, next to the PEI bridge. It is a very interesting place and there are a few caches there and a few on the way there.

Here is the link to the hike info posted by Paul Gaudet on the Club’s website

And here is one of the caches

We are planning to be there

  • Hey Pa, great piece! I know it’s always fun to find caches close to home and appreciate the others placing them in the ‘local’ areas. Thanks too for the shout out. Plans are in the works for more caches in the Salisbury area as we are working with the local Community Days Committee for an event in August. In saying that, do you still have some of those containers Pa? If so, I think Blossom & 5Beaver are headed to the breakfast (or inbox me and we can meet up). I am planning to put the cache locations into GC.com as soon as I can to lock in the areas we need. We are targetting families/kids and planning to do a ‘Come caching – how to/information night’ on the Friday with a non-trackable ‘coin’ given out on the Sunday after they collect the necessary stickers etc. (I am also making arrangements for the ‘cachers out there’ to also get their hands on this non-trackable item). I wonder how many of us have an ‘extra’ GPSr that we might use to have the cords loaded for the ‘newbies’? Anyone willing to help out in any way – inbox myself or 5Beaver. I want to complete as much planning as I can and get-r’-done as Blossom will be going to University in the Fall so we will be even busier in August. I am working on swag/prizes too- any ideas let me know. Sorry, it appears I wrote a book. Thanks again Pa for another interesting read.

    • WOW that sounds fantastic. You are taking on a lot but based on your last event, it will be great. Good luck. I have a lot of tobacco containers and will bring them for you, if that is what you need. We will bring a large amount so there will be enough for others who may want some.

Yesterday we went for walk on the Harrisville trail in Moncton. At one point, I went into the woods to pee, and I spotted a clear film canister on the ground. I picked it up and opened it found a piece of paper inside which said “NOT IN HERE”. We know that Jim has a number of puzzles in this area but we were not sure to which cache this belonged, but we seem to recall that there was also a multi in here a long time ago. In any event, as I turned around I spotted one of Jim’s black micro containers hanging in a tree a few feet from me. Reading the log we saw that Digger had replaced the logsheet in it recently, so we were able to determine which cache it was. We had already claimed i.

We leave shortly for our hike at cape Jourimaine.

      Have a good day all.

  • Pa – yes please that would be wonderful! Many thanks. I (Night) am working tomorrow, but Blossom and 5Beaver will be attending breakfast.
