Pa's Caching Tales

We have met many cachers while on the hunt

Have you met cachers while on the hunt? We have had many encounters with cachers and it is always interesting when it happens. Here is a partial list of our encounters, I copied some of it from the old MGA site, so some of this is from way back as far as 2005.

The list does ot include people that we met looking for the cache at our place or people who had caches at their home or on their mailbox

*We met Markirene at a cache and then spent part of the day caching with him.
*I was driving by Frenchies in Shediac, and saw cachers at our cache. I went over and said hi to Canuck Thistles and Finn, who were on a Shediac caching trip.
*We met crlyl at Evangeline caches and also on Cocagne Island.
*Met Jim52 while out caching in Sussex a few years ago.

*We were surprised by kbviper and FalchFead while looking for a guard rail cache on PEI.

*A Florida cacher parked behind us while we were doing Easy Street in Orlando area. He brught us to a great local cache. Here is the log

Spent a very hot day doing the Easy series and other nearby caches.

Ma went for the cache and Pa stayed in car. A car went by and made a U-turn and parked behind. Pa figured it was perhaps an upset neighbour, so he stayed in car and let Ma handle him. Was great to meet Doughball, a local cacher. Had a great conversation about local caches.

*We were looking for a lamp post cache in Green Park in London England, when a local cacher brought  us the cache that he had been signing on a park bench.
*incepit came chasing after us when he saw us caching along the 114 in Albert County. Our first meeting with him.
*Met inspector Gadget at Dobson trail trailhead.
*Met Steve and Doug Meredith while backpacking at Cape Chignecto.
*Met Misha while going after his cache near his home.
*Met Tucats while caching with cheesepizza after a NS event.
*In Ireland, we met our good friend Jackofspades from Virginia who was going for the same cache as us the day before we were to meet to hike the Kerry Way.
*Met emacx when we went for a cache at her place.
*At Peggy’s Cove we met two cachers from Victoria
*Last year we met a cacher in Halifax who was looking for the same cache as us. Skiffman
*Met C&C when we went for the cache near his work. He spotted us coming across the parking lot.
*Met Newf when going for a Moncton cache a few years ago. We found the cache but apparently hid it too well for him to find.
*Met TreasurehuntMen at an Albert county cache. Actually I was leading hikers at an Outdoor Enthusiasts event, and brought them to a great cache. I did not know that one of the persons in the group was a cacher. He logged the cache when i pointed it out.
*A few years ago we met Hillbilly Bob when doing his series in Hillsborough. This was first time we met. Met him again another time.

*Met a family of cachers in Sherbrooke, QC

*Met Opa (Opa and his Flame) immediately after finding one of his caches. We spied him by the GC symbol on his hat.
*Met a cacher in the Bois de Liesse on Montreal Island. There are more than 30 caches in those woods.

*Met taz30 in Riviere du Loup while looking for one of his caches.

*Met Model12 and Dadanddaughter looking for a cache in Ottawa.

*Met two cachers on Nature trails in Ottawa.

*Met cachers in Fundy Park.

*On the way back from Ottawa we met two different cachers. 1)WE arrived at the old train station in Rigaud Quebec amd came upon a young caching couple having problems finding a cache. Name was Cassiopean. They had 15 finds and had an old gps. They were having problems finding the micro but Ma soon had it for us all. 2)The next day we were discovered caching by Lisandre in a little place called Sainte Rosalie along the 20 in QC. Quite the cacher. He is close to 3700 finds and has only been caching about 15 months.

*We parked in Riverview and spent a few hours walking to a number of micros. As we got close to the final cache, a car slowed down and the person waved at us. It was Argus.. Then a van stopped just past us and out stepped Misha and W A M. I asked if they were with Argus and they said no. Argus then ran up and the bunch of us headed across the mud to the cache. what a wonderful coincidence, especially since it wasn’t a new cache.

*We have met Diane of the Cookers on two different occasions while she was doing her lunch hour caching. We also met her with her caching partner and her son Dave Dang and AShipley while we were caching near scoudouc with CD. A few minutes later we ran into Belladan and his wife Rose Marie.

*We bumped into four local cachers doing a series in Kent County last winter.

  • I’ve bumped into more than one cacher while out in the wild. From running into NBWiggie out in Shediac Bridge area, to some guy I have no idea who he was in Halifax but neither of us could find the cache.

I always find it very interesting and quite cool to meet other cachers while out in the hunt, especially if they are someone I have never met before.

I have ran into Tiger Traker a few times as well as a few others in the Dobson trail. Ran into a couple of families in Victoria park in Truro as well.

  • So here we are in Aylmer QC, across the river from Ottawa looking for a cach. We are having no luck and we are visible. It seems to be in a grating but we cannot find it.

A neighbour comes over and says that he cant find it either. After a short cnversation, we learn that he is a local cacher, Blouind113. A bit more conversation and we discover that he knows an NB cacher that he has worked with. Ma figures out quickly that he is talking about our good caching frind tiger Tracker. What a strange coincidence.

He then guides us to a puzzle cache that he has hidden, and then brings out a great camo’d cache from his house and asks us to place it for him in NB. So when we get back home in July, we will be placing a wonderful camo’d cache and providing him with the coords so he can prepare the cache page.

    I love these coincidences.

But that wqas the second coincidence today. Earlier today, we parked near a cache, as another car parked across the street. Turns out to be JodeGat and Fox Echo ( http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/f2a82131-b228-4800-9179-ac7df9e00758.jpg ) going to the cache which is a tough one but they have inside information. We worked hard at getting a trapped micro from between cement stones in a small wall without any luck. So Fox Echo and I did a little temporary wall dismantling and claimed the cache.

  • What’s with Tiger Tracker anyway, Everybody knows him, and everybody encounters him(them) on the trails. It certainly happened to us too, and on a few occasion! I remember the first time; we are looking on one side of the trail, and when we spotted two person coming by, we stopped and tried to look ”natural”. The two passing by looking at us saying: you are not looking on the right side, it’s over there! That was the first time we’ve met the TigerTracker(s) 🙂

The first time I’ve met cachers while on the hunt was at GC72B2-Musquash Lighthouse by RedWitch, another spectacular spot, on September 13/2008. timrs2001 and Sportsman01. Me and the beagle ended up bumping into them a couple of time that day.

I ran into DueEast in Rockwood park, I believe he was out there doing maintenance to one of his cache; and ran into thecookers on the Humphreys Brook Trail.

Probably the oddest run-ins with cachers had to do with the Fundy National Park event for 2009. I was bringing a buddy (knats) with me to the event, and we stopped to get a cache located at the tourist bureau/covered bridge on the way to Sussex. We came out of the woods and someone stopped us at the car and handed me a business card: adamathome. He wasn’t even heading to the FNP event, he was taking his wife on a shopping trip.

The story takes an even stranger twist. We went to the information building at FNP so that I could confirm the event location. On my way out I noticed someone familiar head into the washroom. When he came out, I realized who it was: mr.big78. I asked him if he was down for the event, but he told me no, that he was heading out to do some backcountry camping with another fellow cacher from Fredericton, SherpaJeff. I had not met him before and it turned out he was waiting in a van parked in the lot. Very strange coincidence!
