First podcast I’ve listened to. I will definitely listen to more. Great job.
Another great episode. Good Sunday morning listen. Keep up the good work.
Zor, In the podcast, you spoke some sort of Topo mapping Do you have a link to that ?
You have to download it via a torrent application because the file is too big for his webhost. Here’s the link ot his site:
http://www.ibycus.com/ibycustopo/
He also posts updates about his work on the official GC forum. here’s the thread link:
http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=174764
And as a side to that, unless I am using the auto-navigate or need street names, I never use any map other than his for caching. Works real well on my Oregon and it’s free 🙂
Anyone have any idea how it compares to Canada Topo v4 NB,NS,PEI,NL regions.
Jim is probably the guy to ask. I have no idea how old the v4 topo is so I could only guess that the Ibycus is more accurate. You could email the map designer and ask.
Ibycus 4.0 is the latest version as far as I know.
Unlike the topo 4.0 it doesnt route and it doesnt have the 3d shading or POIS.
It also doesnt have alot of the road names.
Unfortunately it seems to miss trails that are present on the TOPO 4.0.
Its a great map and its free, but imo the topo offers a better overal package.
I have both installed on my handheld and I keep coming to the Garmin map.
I snagged a copy of the Garmin Topo 4 for Canada. Gonna give it a try
The two “I can” caches that were archived were actually mine, not HeyWhereAmI :D. We do cache a lot together though ;).
Sorry! That’s why I was trying not to refer to anybody by name, because I knew I’d screw it up, or forget somebody, etc. :p
I wonder if it would be a good idea to start including show notes with each podcast. Include links and other information talked about in the podcast… Need to think about it.
If it’s not too much additional work that would be nice. A lot of podcasts do that. That way casual listeners could understand the odd inside joke if there was a link to a log/cache page. Plus if you know you will have show notes you could refer to them during the podcast to save you from having to explain some stuff.
Zor, it wouldn’t take much, you could just modify the recording notes/script we use for each show. If you are busy just send it to me and I could do that part.
I think we’ll start doing that moving forward and include it as a doc people can reference here.
hey guys, enjoyed this episode more than any others, it was really interesting hear how Daryl et al put the whole event together and how overwhelming the response was.
