The geocache where the german cacher died, the owner archived the cache with the following note: “After an accident it is morally impossible to us to operate on this cache.” (translated via google translater)
The same thing was done on the one in BC last year.
There was another down in the states, Texas I think, where the guy didn’t die. He found himself on the wrong trail or something and instead of walking back, decided to go right to it as a crow flies. Was climbing up a little cliff, rock let go, he fell and the rock landed on his chest. He didn’t die, but he broke like every rib, some internal injuries, etc. I think his name was Zachary something. There was a lot of call for that cache to be archived, I’m not sure if it was or not.
The one in BC, I really don’t think that should have been archived, as it wasn’t anything to do with the cache really, you didn’t need to leave the pavement for the cache. However, (even though it contradicts myself) I think I would have done the same if I were the cache owner.
If I remember the BC cache correctly, didn’t his brother in-law log the cache that day the person died?
yup
I don’t know how I forgot to mention this, but one of the highlights of my year was probably visiting one of the Holy Grails of caching: http://coord.info/GCK7HH. Straddling the line and seeing my GPS show W 0 00.000′ was pretty neat.
I have one cache that I disable once the snow flies. It requires parking on the side of a highway. normally there is plenty and plenty of room to move over, but once there are snowbanks there wouldn’t be. I disable it as I don’t want anyone getting hit on the side of the highway for it, even though it’s not winter friendly I know some people will still try it if I didn’t
just finished both parts, good podcast. I don’t mind the length, it was full.
