Capturing The Bay – TimesTranscript Article

With everything that was going on this summer, I never did get a chance to post this. Cache Up NB’s “Capturing The Bay” initiative with the Bay of Fundy made the Moncton newspaper back in August. Below is the article.

Geocaching Adventure Offered (published in the TimesTranscript on August 11th, 2012)

Geocachers invited to participate in Capturing the Bay initiative

The Bay of Fundy is asking geocachers to take part in their new initiative, Capturing the Bay.

“Geocachers must capture a photo of the Bay of Fundy at eight special cache locations,” said Robyn Simard, lead developer for the project, in an e-mail.

“Geocachers must visit all four sites, in any order, to complete the event,” she said. “Geocachers will need a camera and GPS system to complete the event.”

She calls geocaching a “great tool to explore unique and often hidden places on your own.”

“For this event, geocachers will be led to stunning vistas of the Bay of Fundy. If participants are touring the area, this event will bring them to key sites and locations where they can view the Bay in different ways.”

This is the first geocaching activity that encompasses four major tourist sites in south New Brunswick. Fundy National Park, Hopewell Rocks, Cape Enrage and the Fundy Trail Parkway are all part of the adventure.

“It is also one of the first visitor experiences that encourages visitors to view the upper Bay of Fundy as a complete destination; a place to explore the bay in a variety of ways, and from an array of vantage points,” said Simard.

“Embark on a geocaching journey and discover the Bay of Fundy along the New Brunswick Coast. Spectacular vistas are revealed to you as you move through four amazing destinations.”

The event can have great value for tourists and New Brunswickers alike.

“Each of these four locations has its own special appeal and distinct connection to the Bay of Fundy.

“Two caches are hidden at each location. Take a photo at all eight locations and you could earn a limited edition trackable geocoin.”

You can follow them on Twitter (@FundyNP) and find them on Facebook. Information on Capturing the Bay can be found in the information centre at each site or by visiting the geocaching website www.cacheupnb.com

  • As much as I like the Fundy park challenge, this one was different and I really enjoyed placing the caches. It is really what caching is about to me, going places and seeing awesome stuff, it was about the places and the views not the numbers. The coin is now my favorite single coin but I really like the 4 ACGA coins that came out this year as well.

  • The coin is absolutely beautiful. It is the most beautiful one in our possession. Well worth the price of admission to the attractions.
