Come Out & Play Contest Update

The Come Out & Play contest has been going on for just over 3 months now, with a little over 5 weeks to go. We thought we’d let everyone know how it’s going.

We promised to let the players know the results of the informal poll we did back in December asking how they all felt about posting their scores publically.  I thought the results were interesting! LOLWe had a total of 31 responses. We had 27 “no” votes, one “yes” vote who changed his/her mind to “no” later, one who said they didn’t care, one who suggested scores but no names and one who suggested partial scores. The last was a great idea but a bit too much work. So the “no” votes have it, we won’t be posting the scores until the Bye Bye Winter Bash in April.

The contest itself is going very well. Terry and I are having a great time reading all of the logs and reading about all these caches, some we’ve not heard of before. Here are some facts you may enjoy:

  • We have 48 official participants in the contest
  • We have, to date, 5 players who missed the deadline so are not eligible for prizes but who wanted to play anyway so we’re tracking their scores, too
  • We have 3 players who have completed all 20 of their required tasks
  • We have 20 players who have yet to submit a claim
  •  Task #4 Seriesly(?) has the most claims, with 21
  • Task#30 Take a Hike is the only task yet to be claimed
  • The highest point value on a single claim, to date, is 30 points (by 3 different players)
  • The total number of claims approved, to date, is 322

Daryl, of Coopsquared, is having a trackable geocoin made up for the 2011 contest which will be available for purchase. It is similar to the one he had done last year and the pictures and ordering info can be found on our Facebook group page (Fredericton Region Geocachers)  http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/group.php?gid=192176623576. Or if you’d like to contact Daryl directly please do so at sialonak@gmail.com

And last but not least, the date has been set for our 2nd Annual Bye Bye Winter weekend. It will be held here in Fredericton April 29th – May 1st. So far we have the following planned:

  • Friday, April 29th  BBW Bowling Party, with Bowling Bingo and Funky Bowling (7:00 – 9:00 pm at Kingswood) $9.00 per person
  • Saturday, April 30th Some sort of breakfast, not sure what or where yet, details to be announced
  • Saturday, April 30th Treehugger21’s BBW CITO event to clean up our adopted section of highway (we have our sign, finally!) –  time to be announced
  • Saturday, April 30th BBW Bash potluck supper at O’Dell Lodge where the Come Out & Play contest winners will be announced (4:30 or 5:00 – 8:00 pm)
  • Sunday, May 1st Hello Spring Breakfast by Scouter Rick and Crew at the Ramada – time to be announced

More info to follow, once the events are published and all the details are worked out. The Ramada has given us a reduced room rate in the past and, hopefully will again for our out of town guests. There are lots of other great hotels in town, too.

Last year we had over 80 people in town for the BBW Weekend events and everyone seemed to have a great time. At the Bash on the Saturday we will, hopefully, again be having FTF Geocaching Outlet from Truro NS onsite to sell their wares and show new product. We’ll be having a 50/50 draw and a wonderful potluck supper. The whole weekend is lots of fun! We hope you can attend!
Happy Winter Caching!

We're milosheart, also known as Gwen & Terry LeBlanc. We're from Fredericton and have been involved with geocaching since March 2008. When we started caching we each had our own accounts/names. He was Frogger57 and I was milosheart. milo is a nickname of Terry's (from a song he messed up the words to) and, well, I'm his heart (we're still on our honeymoon, 6 yrs on). He logged his first 19 caches then gave up. He loves to go caching, loves the driving, travelling, meeting fellow cachers, searching and finding but could care less about the logging, planning, numbers, etc. He doesn't know how to use the GPS and has no desire to learn, doesn't have a clue what GSAK is, nor care. I love him more for just going with me, blindly sometimes! LOL So we just continued on using my original account and became team milosheart. We cache here in Freddy Beach, Moncton (Terry's hometown), Saint John (my sister and fellow cacher, eebee, lives there) and just about anywhere else we go. Yes, we are addicted. Happily.

Looking forward to it, I didn’t go last year and I am working this year as well but I may take a day off and come up for the Saturday events. I don’t think I will be able to finish 11 more task before the deadline, too much snow in the woods and I don’t get out enough to really have a chance at it. By the looks of it I won’t be alone if only 3 people out of 48 have completed all 20 so far. I will have to take a serious look at the task to see if I can find 11 more to get 20 😉

    • Let me know what you might go after Rev. I’m thinking I want to look at the same list and hit as many as I can before the end.
