Fredericton Geocaching Challenge Launch Event

It’s official! The Fredericton Geocaching Challenge Launch Event will be on October 15th! The city will be proclaiming it Geocaching Day in Fredericton, to mark its importance.

We’ll be starting with a breakfast at The Snooty Fox at 9am, when 30 brand new caches will be published in the Fredericton Area. After the breakfast, we encourage everybody to go hunting, collecting stamps from each cache on a special passport (available in English or French!), which they will be able to present to the city for rewards.

There are rewards for finding 10, 20, and 30 of these caches (and you can get all 3 rewards!) including a beautiful trackable geocoin made by Aitken’s Pewter. Those who earn any of these rewards during the day will have them presented at a special ceremony in Odell Park by Fredericton’s Ceremonial Guard – and there are rumours that the Mayor himself may grace the ceremony to assist!

More details to follow, in a geocaching.com event listing and an event listing here. I’ll post more information as it gets confirmed. Please help spread the word!

  • Really nice and really interesting. We have never found a single cache in Fredericton so this could be a good occasion to do so. I’ll talk to my better half about this and hopefully we’ll be able to join.

    • We’re also planning to have as much of the geotour bilingual as possible – so, all the cache pages will be English and French, the passport will be available in either language, the geocoin has French and English… and we even managed to get pathtags to create a bilingual back for us!

      • Nice work. Seems like you have put a lot of work into this. We appreciate all the effort so even if it’s only in English we don’t mind and understand. Thanks for the heads up, really looking toward to attend. Just making sure we don’t have anything during that weekend.

Wow! This sounds really awesome! 🙂

I’ll try and be there, at least for part of it with the kids!

It’s great that the city is helping you out with this, one more reason to love Fredericton.

Je vous remercie grandement pour l’attention que vous portez aux francophones dans cet événement, même si nous comprenons l’anglais c’est toujours plaisant de s’amuser dans sa langue maternelle! 🙂 Merci beaucoup!

    • It has been pretty awesome working with the city. While I don’t speak fluent French, that was one of the things I asked about with the city up front – and they immediately said they *wouldn’t* take part with the project unless we were willing to make it bilingual! They’ve even got one of their professional translators on hand to help with everything.

Only part that isn’t 100% bilingual is likely the announcements (some of them, at least) at the breakfast, and the evening event – but we WILL have somebody on hand at least to help with translations if anybody needs it.

I’ll also, with your permission, pass this comment onto the city – as they like to know when things like this are appreciated.

      • Of course, share the comment with the city! 🙂

By the way, if I can’t make it in the morning to Snooty Fox is there any other way to get the passport? I probably could go hunting in the afternoon and be there at Odell Park.

      • For the Irishtown Park caches, I used Ma&Pa and Tigertracker for the french translation, are they professionals? All the ACGA Fundy park caches are bilingual as well.
