GPSr advice

What GPSr do you swear by? Several new Garmins are being launched as we speak. What are your opinions on those models as they pertain to caching? I’ll be picking up a new GPSr in October, and could use some experienced advice.

For caching, I mainly use my iPhone, but use my Garmin GPS60 in the States, and when I’m out of cellphone range. I certainly go paperless when I can.

  • I got my Oregon 450 in April and I absolutely love it. It’s not quite as user friendly as my old Explorist 500, but it gets satellite reception quickly, holds 5000 caches and once you get the hang of it, is quite easy to use. Some people aren’t big fans of the touchscreen, but I love it.

  • If you ask me, which you did I guess, I would go with either the Oregon 450 for touch screen or the 62s for buttons and better screen. Both work great and do the same thing except the 62 doesn’t do Wherigos which really doesn’t matter much as the Iphone does them well. I am trying to use a 60cs to see if I want to switch to Garmin from my Magellan which I love.

  • Since I’ve been using a GPSmap 60Cx for a while now and I’m totally in love with it, I would get a GPSmap 62s without even thinking. Since Jim posted a link to it a while ago, I’ve had it in the back of my mind :-).

The design seems to be like this one, pretty robust and can take a beating. It’s paperless and can hold 2000 waypoints. I’m not a fan of touchscreen so hence why I’m leaning toward the 62.

    My two cents worth.

  • Does anone have that link of Jim’s (over to you, Jim)? I saw the GPSmap 62s for $288 at Walmart, of all places.
