Hail to the Hiders

I haven’t posted in a while here and I think I have to write a word or two for all the cache hiders out there. If we were all just ‘’finders’’ there would not be any geocaching would there? (Wow, that is a deep one Nemo!)

As I can appreciate the fast & quick (who doesn’t like a quicky from time to time?) 35mm canister in a tree, I think we have to tip our hats and give a nice big round of applause for two local cachers lately: The infamous Critter431 and my recent discovery with his/her new series, Garn430 (Not sure if I see a pattern here, but I think I will change my name to Nemodidi692).

Have you found any of Critter’s caches in the Sackville area lately? They are “must do” caches in New Brunswick! I was like a little child running around in circles when I found ‘’Scope it out’’ (ask RevSlippery about it), and I was just fiberglasseted (my French way of saying flabbergasted) when I got ‘’your worst nightmare’’. Garn430’s latest series “Can you find it Challenge” are worth mentioning as well.

As I haven’t been out a lot lately, and as I’ve only been caching relatively close to Moncton, I bet that there are surely more of those “outside of the tupperware box” thinkers out there, but for the moment, these two are the ones that I think deserve a mention here. I will also expand my brown nosing as I am in that mood I guess: I will include PaulandStacey in here for sticking a 35mm canister on a top of a pole and I will tell him SMB, which stands of course for his wonderful puzzle Sadistic Mean Brutal. And let’s not forget GreyBeast, who is presently helping to put the northern part of the province on the map (and lately there is certainly a need). This guy is a machine, and I think he should rename himself as such, of course not forgetting to throw a couple of random numbers at the end of his new nickname. Last but not least, Tetagoucher, who makes sure to put out caches for us to discover the beauties that the backroads of New Brunswick are hiddings.

So, I felt like brown nosing a bit, and brown nosed I did! If you have a couple of words to say to all the wonderful hiders out there, take a moment and write a bit about them on this post.

For those about to hide, we salute you!

  • I couldnt agree more about the new caches by critter and garn, I guess we could call them throw backs to the days when there was a lot of quality and the hiders took the time to prepare caches to challenge you. Both of them obviously spent a lot of time coming up with the ideas and then constructing them.

The caches by garn remind me of the PATNOYF series by BPCachers in Nova Scotia. Most of the caches were in plain sight but you didnt know you were looking at a cache.

  • Thanks Nemo! I notice Pa didn’t mention he agreed on what you said about me. I’m not sure how much he enjoyed either of those two caches 😀

  • Having done some of Critter431’s caches just today (the ones on Mt View Rd) we have to whole-heartedly agree. We had a great time finding them and have never laughed so hard at someone’s ingenuity nor been so curious about his next one! His imagination and creativity are amazing. Some of these are the best we’ve ever seen.

We’ve never done any of garn430’s but will definately look them up before our next trip to the area!

And Paul, we loved Pole Vault…..as we drove by it. 🙁

  • Well, an industrial ladder is also possible as it turns out. Just strap one on to the car the next time you’re passing through 😀

Just wanted to recognize Cache Slinger in the Oromocto area who had set out some wonderful quality series! K57 had graciously adopted them when CS was posted out of town. Way to go, K57! Due to the shear numbers, other cachers are stepping up to take some of the “load”. So much work went into them, I’m thankful that we and other cachers could step up and keep them going! [:)]
