Maritime Mega V. 2.0

For those who have not heard, I have recently made the announcement in the Fredericton area that I will be hosting the second ever mega event for the maritime provinces. This edition will take place in Fredericton, likely in July of 2013. I wanted to get a certain number of ducks in a row before making the official announcement, and I am now thrilled to announce that it is looking more and more like a reality.

For those who have never heard of a mega event, I will give a bit of background. A mega event is a very specific type of event cache that gets its own icon. One cannot simply publish a listing and call it a mega event. It needs to be hosted as a regular event, after which the logbook is sent to the groundspeak appeals board, who will count the names, and award the status only if they determine that in excess of 500 people have attended. Once this is done, anyone who has logged the event as ‘attended’ will be awarded the icon. There was one hosted in Bridgewater, NS, in 2010, and one in Quebec a few years prior to that. Other than those two, the most popular mega event in somewhat close proximity to here, is the annual geowoodstock event, which has gained a pretty impressive reputation over the years. So that being said, we hope, and strongly believe, that with the thriving caching community in our area, we will be able to achieve this rare status.
