Nemodidi finds #1000!

Yesterday I saw some grumblings about Nemo going out to find his 1000th cache and once I found out where they were going I took the day off and added myself to the group of 2 Nemo and Tetagoucher. We made plans to leave my place at 8am and pick up Teta in Sussex along the way as he was going to be our tour guide since he had been to the area before. Oh, we are going after GC1HMHC

Nemo started the day with 993 finds so we had to grab 6 along the way to make the cache up on the bluff #1000. So after finding 4 in Sussex we headed in to the area because we knew there were 2 more along the way that we wanted to find. The next one we found was Tetagoucher’s Kissing bridge #4 and no we didn’t get a chance to kiss as I don’t kiss anyone unless they have 1000 finds and Nemo was 2 caches short and Teta was in the back seat so I got off lucky today. Once we reached the Abby we parked on the bridge and found the last cache before the peak another Tetagoucher cache, Arnolds Hollow(which is now archived).

We were told it would take us about 3 1/2 hours to complete but we soon realized that it would be much shorter as we were halfway there in 20 minutes. 40 minutes after leaving the truck we were there. What a fantastic place for a cache too bad there aren’t more places like this that don’t already have a cache at them because I would love to own a cache at a great look off like this. I can’t describe the view and can only imagine what it would look like in the fall. when we first got there and had our intial look around at the view we went in to find the cache and we got a little worried as we couldn’t find it. After a few minutes of looking Teta spotted it and I saw it too, we walked away and let Nemo go in for the kill. He pulled it out with a big grin on his face and a cold beer in his hand. We spent about 30 minutes at the top taking in the view and drinking the celebratory beers and got back to the truck 2 hours and 6 minutes after we left. We took some pics and I shot some video which I will post as soon as I can get it edited together. This was a great day and to top it all off we will be getting back together tonight at my Wing night event ant Saxby’s in Riverview.

Here is Nemo’s log from the cache page.

March 31 by Nemodidi (1000 found)

This is it, #1000 !!!!!!!!! I remember getting my first, then 100, today 1000!

We got the GPS on Friday July 11/2008 in the morning, delivered at work (we were both working at the same spot). We downloaded a “geocache” that was just some 500m or something from where we were working: Caffeine Fix GC141YV it was. At lunch time we went for it … We got hooked. The following day (a Saturday), we went to Fundy Park and did the 5 Fundy Park Caches to get the free geocoin, did a few other cache in that area, and that started our journey into geocaching!

257 geocaching days later I reached the top of Friar’s nose for the 1000 milestone. Could not have asked for a better day. Got up as usual around 6am, got our little one ready for the daycare, kissed my wife before she went to work, and I was at RevSlippery’s house in a flash (well, as fast as the Moncton morning traffic can be!). We stopped at TH in Sussex to pick up our excellent Guide, Tetagoucher. Poor fellow, having to crawl in the back of my little Ford Ranger that is full of crap.
Before I left in the morning I was at 993 find. I stopped for one on the way, did four Park and Grab in Sussex, then Teta’s Arnolds Hollow GC25NCG, that was where we park the truck just before our ascend. For 3 guys who are maybe not all that in shape, we climbed up there at a pretty fast speed! When we got on top, we actually had a bit of a hard time finding the cache and when I was starting to be a bit nervous, Teta spotted it, but just said: I see it. And yep, there it was waiting for me, #1000.
RevSlippery is a great guy, he thought about bringing something up to celebrate my find. Three nice and cold beer. We took a bunch of pics, relaxed looking at the nice view sipping our beverage, and then headed back down. The way down was way way way easier.

It was a great hike, a perfect spot for a milestone, and of course great company. Only thing missing was my better half. Tks for the cache Jim, thanks for bringing us up here, and thanks to my hiking partners RevSlippery and Tegagoucher! Looking forward to go to Rev’s caching event tonight at Saxby’s for wings and cold ones.

  • Congrats Nemo.I will soon hit that 1000 mark.Hope it feels as good as that beer on the mountain top looks.

  • Wow nice job on 1k finds Nemo and Didi! I hope to get that this summer, it’s my main caching goal this year.

  • Congrats Nemo. You certainly picked a special cache to complete this milestone. Anxious to see what you will do for # 2,000.

      • Actually I did a Sobey’s parking lot cache for a milestone! (every 50th cache is a milestone for me). Not literraly a Park and grab, but a Sobeys parking lot cache nevertheless. I believe it was called “I lost my keys” Check my stats on my geocaching.com page. 😉
