Pocket Queries to increase to 1000 caches
Although there has been no “official” release from Groundspeak regarding this, Jeremy Irish (CEO of Groundspeak) posted a message on the official forums informing people that by May 2, 2010, the maximum amount of caches allowed to be pulled down in a pocket query will be increased from 500 to 1,000.
For premium members, this will mean that the maximum amount of caches that can be queried in a day will go from 2,500 to 5,000.
Many cachers experience issues trying to obtain good PQ’s for cache saturated areas because of the current limitation. Usually cachers will have to run multiple pocket queries in strategic locations to insure that they get all of the caches for a particular area. The increase from 500 to 1,000 will reduce (but not necessarily eliminate) the need to use multiple PQ’s for certain areas.
I will post any updates I see and if anyone else sees or hears anything regarding this, please feel free to send it our way.
I should also add that there is no indication as to whether or not there will be an additional charge for this service, or if it will come with other services as well. Obviously only time will tell.
At my rate of finding caches one PQ would last me about a year and a half. This must be making the people who keep all the caches in Atlantic Canada up to date every day, wet their pants.
mmmm 1000 per query i love that. as my travels take me to multiple areas frequently i keep a nice collection of pq’s going all the time. this would alleviate some troubles
That’s good news; it will make it a lot easier to download all the caches for a province, etc.. It makes sense too; I imagine cache density has more than doubled in many places since they made the 500 cache limit on PQs.
This makes me happy since there are 500 caches I haven’t found within 38KM of my house. And my GPSr can keep 2000 caches, all in all it means less work to keep my device packed full of cachy goodness!!
