Saint John Exhibition to Host Geocaching Events

Are you ready for five fun filled geocaching days from August 27-31 in Saint John, New Brunswick?  The Saint John Exhibition is in town and for the first time in North America, geocaching will be a featured event for the exhibition.

It all kicks off on August 27  when 10 geocaches are published on Geocaching.com.  Caches will be located at significant historic sites where exhibitions, fairs, parades and circuses were held.  Learn a little about the history of the city that you may not have known!

August 28 brings an Introduction and Demonstration to Geocaching presented by Mud in the Face.  This will be held at Exhibition Grounds Building 2  from 7-9pm.

Geocaching  102 presented by Sgt will run on August 29th from 7-9pm.  Same location

August 30 brings Tiger Tracker to the city to present Introduction to GSAK from 7-9pm.  Once again at the Exhibition Grounds Building 2.

August 31 is the finale (GC4J6NJ) event from 12-2pm where the first 100 geocachers with completed passports will receive a special geocoin.  One coin per person and you have to be there in person to receive the coin.  Cache Up NB  will also be there on hand to show their support.

The geocaching booth will be open all week long with information about geocaching.

August 28 from 7-9pm – Introduction to Geocaching

Have you heard about geo caching but don’t know how to get started? Or you are a new cacher and could use some help. You are invited to come and join us on Wed. Aug. 28th from 7 pm to 9pm. at the Saint John Ex. As part of the introduction we will have a slide show.

Geo caching can be enjoyed by all ages. There will be a presentation and a hands on demonstration on how to use a GPS to find hidden caches. For the demonstration we will have some different size caches hidden on the grounds for you to find using a gps. These caches will be temporary.

August 29 from 7-9pm  Geocaching 102

So, You are new to Geocaching, have a few finds, but you have more question but no one to ask. You want to refine your skills to make your outings more enjoyable. This is the Event for you. This is an informal, Q&A, with some set topics to make your Geocaching Experience more enjoyable.

Here are a few of the topics that we will discuss:

1) Should I become a regular member? And what are the benefits?
2) Do I need a new GPS? Or can I use my Phone?
3) What should I take with me on my Geo Adventure?
4) How do I use web Queries and how can I use it to plan my Vacation?
5) How do I use Geocaching.com? Hints to pick apart a geocache.
6) I heard about GSAK, Do I need it?
7) How do I get Notifications that a new geocache has been placed.
8) I get to the cache, but I can’t find it? Hints to make your search more successful.
9) There has to be another way…Multiple cache logging.

August 30 from 7-9pm – Introduction to GSAK

Want to learn about Geocachers Swiss Army Knife? Come on over from 7-9pm to learn how!

This event will teach you how to use the GSAK program for upload to your GPS.

Puzzle Caches
Interaction with Geocaching.com
Polygons
Filters
Creating queries along a route
Mass logging
Sharing pocket queries
Other topics based on questions from the participants

  • This was my first time doing something like this had a great time with my wife and son meet some great people and some very helpful ones as well or we would stil be looking…

  • What a week! 1 booth at the EX with 4 events, 10 caches and an incredible geocoin (designed by Cheryl Wright). Could not even begin to count the people who came by to learn about geocaching. Plus all those who came out to find the caches and earn the coin. Thanks to everyone for all your support! Special thanks to the Saint John Ex and Harold EH Wright who made it all possible. A special Thank you to Cache Up NB for all your help, guidance and support. Thanks to Mud in the Face, Sgt. Pick, Tiger Tracker for their seminars.
