Seafood Excursion Caches

You likely have seen some of the 25 caches in this series, but you may not know what it is all about. Because of GC rules, the cache pages do not indicate that there is a contest involved and do not provide a link to the contest page.

Here are the rules and the list of the many prizes prizes

http://www.excursionnb.ca/contest-rules

You find 3 of the caches, and go in the fish market and get the code off the contest sign inside the shop and then enter the contest online

Here is one of the caches. It has a list of all the caches in the series.

A big thank you to Tiger Tracker and Denislan who were heavily involved with this including all the cache hiding. I know there was also a lot of discussion with GC.com before they were able to publish all the caches..

  • Found two in southwestern NB yesterday (St. George and Back Bay). The lady behind the counter in the St. George shop was telling my wife that only 6 people have been in so far. She seemed disappointed. I think it has a lot to do with not knowing that you’re supposed to go inside to get the code off the poster. Too bad GC wouldn’t allow the link on the cache page.

  • I too didn’t know about the code. I found the one in Tracadie on a recent business trip. Nemo was there just before me. Nemo, help!

  • Yeah, the cache I hid that gets the most visit is the one in Atholville and it seems half of the people won’t bother with the hints. They must have loaded pocket queries into their GPS and didn’t had the full cache description and only realized at home that there was an hint. It would had been nice if Tiger Tracker’s first description would had been accepted but we had to take some information out to stay within GC terms.

We were expecting a bit more finds but there is still some time. Like on my end in the Acadian Peninsula that is normal numbers since we are only a few cachers that go for the new caches. Tiger told me a few days ago that one of his in Escuminac had no find *hints hints there is a FTF to grab there* :-). There are nice prices too and it’s free. You don’t have to purchase anything to get the hint. You only need 3 entries as well over the 25 caches.

Thanks for the kind words PA.

    • I know of this site called catch up NB or something that is set up to provide such information to Geocachers. That site just might welcome people providing such information that is not permitted over at geocaching.com 😉

  • Got my third down in St. Andrews today, now to enter. I’m not a big fan of seafood, but my wife would suck the ocean dry if she could. 🙂

  • Too bad you can’t get the clues if the business is closed – which is the case on a Sunday afternoon (when alot of cachers find caches). Oh well, 2 out of 5 is a start, just one more needed.

  • As Denislan indocated, the link to the contest was included in the original cache page write-up but following discussions with Groundspeak, we were requiored to remove it. Some locations have this poster with the code in their store window. The contest runs until October 15 (sooner in some cases where the market closes for the season before that date).

This year is being used as a trial. A decision on if another contest will be held next year will be made at a later date. Groundspeak has indicated that they are willing to work with us if we do another contest next year.

One of the issues that I ran into when placing the caches is that people in many of the markets do not know what geocaching is so I made it a point to explain it to them and also show them the container that I was hiding and also where, given that many hides are either on their property or very close.

  • Hi Tiger Tracker,

I think that its a great contest and just needs a little time to work out the kinks. Alot of time and effort has gone into the contest and I want to thank you and the organizers !!
I sent a mail to info@ on the contest page to give my experience and the lady (Joanne) got back to me right away with an email thanking me for the comments and that they would look into it.

  • Thank-you geodimeter for your kind words. I would like to include Denislan as well since we worked as a team to get all 25 caches out there. I spoke to Joanne this morning and even though many cachers are not able to get to the markets due to them being closed, she was very happy to learn that the caches are very active and also very surprised and pleased at the number of cachers from other provinces and also from the US that have found caches in the series. This is of course in addition to a large number of local cachers who have also found caches in the series.

  • ok, now back to the one we did, pay attention, read all the rules and maybe we can get into this contest :)it’s a good thing there is a site like this to get the info out.

  • The Seafood Excursion contest will end on October 15. Please be advised that the caches in this series will be archived shortly thereafter.
