New Brunswick’s 104th Regiment of Foot – A New Geocoin Challenge

On Tuesday November 20th, Mr. Brian MacDonald, MLA Fredericton-Silverwood, Chair of New Brunswick’s War of 1812 Commemorative Committee, announced the funding for a Geocoin to commemorate the historic March of NB’s 104th Regiment of Foot from Fredericton to Upper Canada in February 1813 as part of NB’s contribution to the War of 1812.

600 soldiers marched on snowshoes pulling toboggans up the frozen St John River in one of the harshest winters on record.  The coin will be given out to the first 200 cachers to find 15 of the 30 caches in the series.  It is hoped that the series will go live December 15th, 2012.  The series mark locations in NB where the NB 104th either manned a fort, blockhouse, or outpost as well as the bivouac locations on the march.

The series includes some key personnel such as Major General Hunter, the Scottish Officer given a commission to raise the NB Fencibles that later became a regiment of the line and known as the 104th Regiment of Foot.  The Friend

The series will start in St Andrews (Fort Tipperary) and Saint John (Fort Drummond & Fort Howe) and follow the St John River to Edmundston & beyond.  The last or first depending on start point is Fort Ingall in Cabano QC.  It is anticipated this will bring cachers from around the world to find this series which combines history and travel.  s of NB 104th speared headed by ranger170 began placing the caches this week.
