Spring and Saint Patrick Day – MA & PA

Tomorrow is March 17 and it seems there is a great day of caching planned for Saint Patrick Day in Salisbury. NightBlossom has an event planned at the Pizza Mill.

They will be adding new caches in the area for the event and 5Beavers has done likewise. You may also have noticed a number of new caches recently added near there by Walden07.

We will be there. Hope to see you all there.

Snow conditions have been bad around here lately so today we went up to Kouchi to spend the day skiing. There is lots of snow there so we had a great time on a beautiful sunny day. (With temperatures approaching 18 this comng week, this may be the end of the season.) After skiing we took a short drive north to St Margarets to pick up our cache of the day.

As you know, caches are not permitted in National Parks but we are planning a puzzle/multi in Kouchi that will involve picking up info in the park and then calculating the coords of a cache located outside the park.

*****************************************

We had to move 4 of our new micro logics because of clear cutting. Rather than change the calculations on the cache pages, I simply added the coords on the GEOCHECKER page. When the cacher inputs the calculated answer on geochecker, they are provided with the new coords.

I advised cache tech in advance of the cache movement. I did not know if it was necessary to advise the reviewers since I was not changing the coords on the cache page but rather the final concealed coords. It made me wonder about moving caches. If a traditional is moved too far, you need approval from a reviewer to ensure that it is not too close to another cache. I wondered if there would be such a requirement when moving a puzzle. It seems not, as I was able to move one of them by at least 500 meters and the GC.com site did not stop me. But I did tell cache tech in case he would like to verify the coords.

*************************************************

Have you ever found 2 caches that are closer than the 167 meter limit? We found two in the Caribean that were only 80 meters apart. Did you know there are two caches in NB that are only 40 meters apart? Obviously that situation will have to be rectified soon. So if you want the fun of finding two that close, you better do it soon. Because you all know I like to follow the rules.

      • Yes, thanks for 5beaver we had 16 in total none of which are difficult. A perfect day for caching. It was great to see so many folks! Dave asked me about planning one for next year (with a wink)….told him to stay-tuned and to build on. 🙂

  • Have been on the Mount Eagle Road many times over the years. Usualy in the spring of the year and counting how many deer we see grazing in the fields. This year they get to count the deer and I get to collect caches along the way. I still have a couple puzzles on this road to solve and collect. A Win Win, thanks to the Saint Patrick’s day event!!!!

  • We had a great time caching today, bumping into PastorJim and 5Beaver a few times during our caching day.

We cached alone before heading for pizza and then teamed up with globuf and her buddy to find a bunch in the afternoon. We also had the pleasure of bumping into Army.of.two at the Pick It cache when we brought globuf to try it. We all had a good laugh.

And of course we attended the great pizza event. We had a wonderful time there. A very relaxed atmosphere and lots of un and caching conversations. Always a pleasure to hang out with geocachers. And to top it off, the pizza was great. AND I was so tempted to try the donairs that Jim52 and KDcachers ordered
