Virtual Caches Will Return By August 2011
In checking of the most recent activity on the official feedback site for Geocaching.com, Jeremy Irish has posted an update on the status of the return of Virtual caches. Looks like August of this year they will return. Here is the latest:
“We continue to work on the project, but unfortunately will be unable to launch something until late June or early July. I’ll update this if anything changes. We’ll be incorporating the concept into our August 20 Block Party in Seattle, so early August is the absolute latest that we’ll have something live.”
I’d be curious to be at that block party to see what it’s all about but I’m sure we’ll hear something soon.
You can find the latest information on the status of virtuals here.
Whatever it is they are planning, I hope it isn’t as lame as Waymarking.
I wonder if they’re going to do something similar to OC where you can do a virtual, only if a traditional is impractical or impossible.
I hope they keep a photo requirement. I’m incredulous that they’ve removed the photo requirement from earthcaches.
I agree, I had an earth cache I was considering putting together recently, but I’m not interested anymore.
Jeremy has added some details about the return of virtuals.

Looks like these new virtuals will not count against your actual cache find totals.
I can’t see this as being very successful.
