Winter Challenge Geocoin, 2012 edition

I’ve had a few people ask if I was going to design another winter challenge geocoin this year, to go along with the New Brunswick Winter Challenge. I likely would, if there was interest in it. Here are my thoughts right now:

Option 1: The Winter Challenge Geocoin maintains the theme from the last two years, using the same back (snowflake) design and geocoin icon. This keeps costs drastically down, making each coin approximately $7.50 – 8 each.

Option 2: We redesign the coin entirely, maintaining a few details from previous years, but get a new icon. The cost per coin would be approximately $10 each.

Option 3: We radically redesign the coin, using the snowflake design as the shape of the coin, and get a new icon. The cost per coin would still be approximately $10 each, as a shaped coin does not cost more than a regular round one.

Or, option 4: We don’t bother with a winter challenge geocoin this year.

I’ve started a “Poll” question about this on the Fredericton Region Geocachers facebook page, but I like the idea of getting as many people involved in the discussion as possible to raise interest.

Thoughts?

    • I also don’t want a collection of round coins, the variety of shapes and sizes make my collection interesting to me.

I would be interested in another ‘Winter Challenge’, of course! The geocoin in the shape of a snowflake sounds nice to me…no problem with the $10.00! Ron

I like option #1 the best – that way it’s a series of coins in a collection.

  • I like the idea of a coin, no matter the first three options. I haven’t seen the design for the previous years, and I’m not into collecting (yet)…but I think a snowflake shape sounds fun! I would be happy with any of the three. 10$ seems fine.

  • I think the coin should be similar enough to be recognizable to anyone who saw last years, but shouldn’t be identical. Need a change to make it worth buying another, so I think option 2 would be best.

I prefer a round coin, as that’s what makes it a coin to me. Some variations are great, like pentagons or hexagons, etc. Variety is needed after all

  • After talking with coopsquared on Sat night we really like the idea of a coin in the shape of a snowflake and we would take 2.

  • I remember I wanted one from last year but I forgot about it :(. I also think it should still hold the theme but do not look like the previous years. I don’t mind paying an extra 2 bucks 🙂 I’ll make sure to find a way to get one this year.

  • Any thoughts on the image for one side? We had a snowman with an ammo can in year one, and a night time winter scene (with snowshoer) for year two.
