Hub City Holiday Giveaway Winner Announced

On Saturday December 8th, Cache Up NB celebrated the holidays by giving away a Magellan eXplorist GC GPS. We had been running a contest on Cache Up NB to have people submit their names as a comments to the news item we posted. We ended up with 121 entries. The plan was to take each of the names of the people who had entered the contest, and place each name in a balloon. We would then have folks at the event shoot darts at a large board that had all of the balloons attached to it. The last balloon standing would be the winner.

As it turns out, we had a fairly large crowd of geocachers show up for the event. Folks did not need to be in attendance to win the actual GPS, but we were offering additional prizes to those folks who did opt to come that day. We gave away a $40 gift certificate to Cachemporium (who also had a table set up that day), a few coins, as well as two extremely limited edition Cache Up NB golf shirts. Congrads to Incepit and Herminnz for winning those. Also a big congrads out to Cachemporium as this was there first “out of town” event and I definitely think it was a success.

Everyone got a chance to shoot some darts at the board once the fun began. We alternated between the front and the back to insure that it ran quite fairly. There were only a few missed shots here and there but eventually there came to be only three balloons on one side.

We lined everyone up along the one side of the board and gave out one dart to each person. They had to shoot their best shot from where they were standing. As it turned out, the first two shots popped two of the remaining three balloons. Our winner had been decided.

Pa was the official winner and took his GPS out that day for a bit of trial to see how it works. We finished the day off by trying to eat as much of the dessert buffet we had as possible. There was quite a large collection of cookies, cupcakes, donuts, and plenty of other sweets so it was very unlikely for anyone to walk away hungry. In fact, if I recall correctly, some folks even opted to skip their supper from being so full.

We were also fortunate in that Rudolph made an appearance at our event as well. An unexpected visitor, Rudolph brought their own set of treats and entertaining the crowd. Even the kids at the event seemed to enjoy having Rudolph around.

At the end of the day, we all gathered around for a nice group photo, cleaned up the mess from all of the balloons, and headed off to enjoy the rest of our day.

Cache Up NB would like to thank everyone who participated in this giveaway this year. We’d also like to send a big thanks to Magellan who provided the GPS for us. We hope to be able to provide you similar giveaways in the new year. For those who are curious about the shirts we gave away, these were a test run for what we hope to launch in the new year. Expect to see some swag being made available in the first half of 2013.

All of us at Cache Up NB would like to wish everyone a happy holiday and we hope you get some geocaching in over the holidays.

  • Great event; because it was buffet style and we were all standing most of the time it was great in terms of cachers mingling. But really…can you go wrong with an event that revolves around dessert?!! I think not!! Nice to see Cachemporium there as well…bought a tag to turn my dog into a travel bug…wonder what he’ll think of that?!

  • We had a great time!

Congrats to Matt & Ken for hosting a very unique event. The darts and balloon wall was a great way, not to mention different and fun, to select the winner of the GPS. We enjoyed bursting a few balloons ourselves,

Thanks, also, for allowing us to participate as a vendor. It was, as you mentioned, our (Cachemporium’s) first out-of-town event and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
