One heck of a powertrail

An interesting topic came up at one of the local breakfasts and then again at the beer and wing nite the other night. It has to do with a new powertrail that has appeared in Nevada. A post was made about this trail on the ACGA forums and has since stirred some interesting conversations about such a trail.

A user named Ckayaks has two bookmarks for at least a big chunk of that powertrail. The series is apparently called “Trail of the Gods” and each cache is named after a god of some kind. The combined totals of the two bookmarks bring the cache totals to 537 but there are also other powertrails that connect to this one so the total cache count is definitely much higher.

Cache sizes apparently vary as I saw both small and micros listed but I have not gone through much of them. For anyone who would be interested in some serious power caching, this is definitely the trail for it. I suspect it would be very easy to set a record for most caches in a day via this trail.

  • One thing I think is interesting about this trail is that although it would get old snagging cache after cache, I think the fact that you’d likely be on a 4 wheeler or other ATV would make it more interesting. If you like offroading then it would probably be a lot of fun going out there for the caches. Otherwise, kind of like the Maine series, it would purely be about numbers.

  • I also found an event cache (GC24WZ4) that apparently is to launch another power trail for 1000 caches. Wow

I was looking at the series before and it looks like the caches are each about 100-150 meters on either side of the road so it won’t be a bunch of simple park and grabs. That is 300 meters of desert hiking for each find. That would be one long and hot day. This would be a good way to lose some weight!! Maybe do them at night when it is cooler, most look like they are at the base of the towers so should be easy to find.

The descriptions say you need a good 4×4 with a lot of clearance and lots of gas and water.

  • From what I can tell, both trails are accessible via a sturdy 4×4 vehicle or ATV

  • well this was short lived as they’re archiving this trail as i type. the story isn’t out what the exact reasons are but this is the archive log being placed on them.
“Regretfully, we had to agree to archive these caches due to the “increased traffic and undue attention to the area”.”
