A Cache a Day?

Ma and Pa placed an awesome new challenge cache: DÉFI 100 JOURS // 100 DAY CHALLENGE

GC2YD1N

I was just wondering what everyone thinks about this. Personally, I think it’s a great idea, and by attempting it, it will get me out of the house every day, regardless of the weather. We have a family trip planned this summer, and I’m even going to have to plan caching around and during that trip, if I’m going to achieve 100 consecutive days of caching.

For those who are going to attempt this milestone, how do you plan to do it? I’m mostly “fished out” of close-to-home caches. To help others, I think I will archive and replace a few of my older, less visited hides.

Who else is taking a run at this challenge geocache?

  • I got the FTF on this cache as I had done a run of 180 days in 2009. I only stopped because the goal was to do a cache every day for 6 months while I was on parental leave.

For me, the streak was fun BUT let me tell you, after awhile, it gets a bit old. By the time I hit about 150-160 caches, it was becoming more a chore than anything and no longer fun. I actually started to look forward to the end of the run as opposed to enjoying the streak.

If you’re looking for a personal challenge, this is definitely a good one. The biggest advice I can give anyone is to leave caches that are close to home alone and go for ones a bit further away. There WILL be times when you either forget and need one quickly, or are just too busy to go for a run somewhere else and can use the closer ones for times like those.

Lastly, stop when you are no longer enjoying it. If the 100 days is what you are really after, then go for that. Once the streak gets to be a chore and no longer fun, it’s time to walk away.

    Good luck!

  • I don’t like the idea of archiving long standing caches just to place new ones 10 feet away. I’d prefer to leave a long standing cache in place unless the area becomes an issue. You could just leave the cache in place and do this every 12 months. It doesn’t mean your finding more caches, just the same old ones over and over.

It’s different if I archive one of my caches, and a month later a different cacher puts one nearby, that’s just gonna happen. But to purposely do it just so the locals can get their numbers higher isn’t a very good idea.

    • If geocaches didn’t get archived, the game would be over for many of us long ago. I’m not saying achive one guardrail cache for another. I’m saying consider archiving an older cache that gets little or no finds, for a new, different cache. By archiving one cache you open up a new “radius” for a new placement. Do something different from the old. Make a different type of puzzle or a multi or “something”. Keep the game fresh and varied for everyone….

  • There are 6 new caches coming out in Riverview on July 1st. I hid them for the town as part of my ACGA position as NB rep. They are all quick and easy, family friendly caches located on town property. As a bonus the town got a real nice coin made for the occasion, so find all six, decipher the code and get a coin. This will give everyone 6 days of finds on the way to 100.

  • I hope our recent caches (trad and puzzle) will help those going for the 100 day streak. We hid 3 more trads today so come to Grande Digue/cocagne area when they come out

  • Having been caching for a while, I would think I had a long streak. unfortuantly my longest was only 11 days. I am currently on day 5 of my planned 100 day (though I have yet to get my one for today). I find the hardest part is limiting the number of local caches I find each day. since there are very few I haven’t found, I usually wait until the local ones build up to male a few hours of caching, so now limiting myself to only one a day has been hard… I did 2 yesterday.

  • I would be on day 3 or 4, but i didn’t go get one today, and not gonna. I may make a go at this though…

  • Well, I’m on day 31. I spent the morning in the Shediac Cape – Cocagne area. I found 12 caches, and that’s enough for today, and I fulfilled my daily cache requirement. Rev Slippery placed three new caches in my local area, and now I’m not going to get them until I desperately need one for my daily cache fix. It’s kind of weird keeping a few finds in “reserve”. Normally, I would just go get them… but now, I’m hoarding them like a squirrel hoards his nuts for later. It’s a new dynamic. I’m not even a third of the way to my goal, and I’m looking forward to it being over… Unfortunately, I have GCD (geocaching disorder) and can’t stop….

  • Can I claim the Challenge cache if I play 100 games of golf in a row? I am afraid that this challenge is a little out of reach for me. I am lucky to sleep or eat for 100 days in a row. Congrats to the cachers that do it. It is a big commitment to make. Like Pa said on an earlier comment that Geocaching is a way of life for some people. Those people are dedicated to geocaching and should have no problem reaching that milestone.

  • I’m on day 16 and I don’t know if I can really make it to 100 or not. I need to get some local people hiding caches or something…
