Cache Up NB: Latest Events & News

It’s not often that we do a round up on mini-news items but I figured I would put this out there to remind folks of a few things going on with Cache Up NB this week and throw in some other news at the same time.

For starters, if you’re in the Moncton area on Saturday, Cache Up NB has partnered with the Town of Riverview again for another geocaching coin challenge. This one is themed around their Harvest Festival this year. Feel free to check out the listing GC3WGYK and come on out. We’ve got six new caches coming out on Friday and if you print off the passport and get a sticker at each cache, you can redeem the completed passport for a free trackable geocoin.

Speaking of coins, we’re also hosting an event in Sussex this Sunday which is all about trackables. If you visit GC3PY3M you’ll find out about the trackables expo we’re hosting to try and get people to bring out their coins and other trackables for people to see and discover. I’ll be bringing my small collection to show off, and I encourage others who have even the smallest collections of coins to bring theirs as well. It should be a hoot.

In website related news, we should be pushing our latest API integration piece into action within the next few weeks (hopefully). This new release will include the ability for you to now log into Cache Up NB using your www.geocaching.com account instead of your local CUNB/Wordpress account. This will make it easier for new users to sign up to Cache Up NB and existing users will simply have to click a button to “connect” their old logins to their GC account. Having your account linked will provide additional features on Cache Up NB based on your GC account. The hovers are the first thing that will look different once you’re connected up. Stay tuned for more on that.

Lastly, today myself and Rev Slippery received quite a nice letter from the superintendent of Fundy National Park. The letter reads as follows:

Re: Support for Cache Up NB

Parks Canada gladly recognizes the exceptional work carried out by Cache Up NB, in collaboration with Fundy National Park. Cache Up NB’s is an excellent partner, always employing a high level of professionalism, responsiveness and organization. In 2012, Cache Up NB hosted the largest annual geocaching event in Atlantic Canada, in Fundy National Park. The weekend-long event saw 250 new and seasoned cachers exploring the park. Parks Canada also worked with Cache Up NB to launch a new initiative that included Fundy National Park, Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park, Cape Enrage, and the Fundy Trail Parkway. Ken Arsenault and Matt Klem representing Cache Up NB led the placement of the caches, advertisement and promotion of the events and launch day organization and support. As recognized leaders of the activity, they are able to draw the large maritime community of geocachers to these events.

Parks Canada endorses this organization and their efforts to lead larger, more complex events throughout the province of New Brunswick.

It was nice to receive this from the park and we really appreciate the sentiment. One of the things that many people may not realize is that a lot goes into some of these partner programs so it was definitely nice to get this type of positive feedback. As always, we extend an invitation to the community members to comment on any of the programs and how we can improve upon them.
