Cache Up NB Live – The Ticker

As some of you may know, we have done a few liveblogs here on Cache Up NB. The idea is being able to present you with real-time updates of specific events related to geocaching within the province of NB. From GeoWoodstock 8 last year, to a trip to PEI, to the Ice Walk, the liveblogs have provided a unique window into the world of geocaching as it is actually happening.

Now we’re trying a new feature called “The Ticker”. Now, I’ll be the first one to admit that when I heard the term “ticker” and saw what it was, it wasn’t anything like what I would call a ticker. But none the less, that’s what it’s called so that’s what I’ll stick with.

I launched the ticker a few weeks ago for the impromptu poker game that was held, and it’s been active ever since. It’s actually been received quite well and I am hoping folks find a good use for it. Here’s the lowdown on how it works.

The “ticker” is a sort of never-ending liveblog that resides permanently on Cache Up NB. This ticker is open to all users of Cache Up NB and can be posted to by anyone by following the directions. It uses Twitter as it’s main source of updates, but anyone who has a CoverItLive account can request additional access through me.

Here’s how it works:

Say you’re out caching and you spot something really cool that you want to share with folks from Cache Up NB. All you need to do is post a tweet to your Twitter account and include the Cache Up NB Live hashtag: #cunblive. Whether you post just text, or a photo, or even video, as long as you include the #cunblive hashtag, it will be posted to Cache Up NB’s live ticker.

Be sure to put a space between any part of your tweet and the #cunblive hashtag.

Just like our liveblogs, any photos posted are automatically thumbnailed so users can see them immediately.

Whether you have a smartphone like a Blackberry or iPhone, or just a regular cell phone with text messaging, you can still participate. You just need to follow the directions given and you’ll be able to add your own updates to our live ticker.

We still plan on doing dedicated liveblogs for special events, but this ticker allows us to have an open liveblog that can be used adhoc whenever we want.

If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to let us know. Thanks
