Cache Up NB Release Notes – November 2012

For those curious about the new features added recently, here’s the rundown:

  • GC Integrated Login was added to allow you to register or login to Cache Up NB using your GC account. Everything you need to know about this can be read via here.
  • The Come Out & Play contest banner has resurfaced due to the launching of this year’s contest. New changes to the contest include how you register and how claims are submitted.
  • The Scribbles have been updated to turn Tetagoucher’s name Orange as a nod to his being the first person to ever donate money to Cache Up NB’s activities. Other donators may get their name changed in the future.
  • The GC/TB code hovers have now been improved for anyone who is logged in using their GC account. These new features include:
    • For GC Codes:
      • Google and GC map links to the cache location (if you are a premium member)
      • A notice as to whether or not you have found the cache before
      • A + to expand out and view the entire description of the geocache
      • A + to expand out and view the recent logs of the geocache
    • For TB Codes:
      • The TB’s default image is shown
      • A + to drill down and view the goal of the bug

As always, we love to hear suggestions or issues that you may encounter using any of these new features. Thanks.

    • Currently yes.

We are looking at selling some swag in the new year to try and generate revenue to be able to put on better events, better prizes, etc.

But right now, the only funds we get are the ones through donations or out of pocket.

  • CacheUpNB was never meant to generate cash and never will focus too much on that end but if we do get some it will always go back out in the form of website expenses or event fees and prizes. It will never have cash sitting in the bank or anyone’s pockets. Zor and I have used our own money so far and it hasn’t been expensive to run by any means, we are happy with the way it is but if the members want to have swag or contest then we are good with that as far as it doesn’t get carried away, we like our humble little website.

  • Ken nailed it.

It’s never been about generating any money and the actual costs to do much of what we do is very minimal. It’s only when we start getting into wanting to do larger events, or give away bigger prizes that we get a bit stuck because of money.

Since the site has grown far beyond what it was intentionally designed for, the cost of doing certain things has gone up, but so has the benefit. I don’t mind putting out a bit of money here and there if it means we can do better things. If people want to donate, that’s great. Any money we do make goes right back into other stuff we do. I just recently used some of the donation money for some prizes. Other donations just sit in the Paypal account until it’s needed.

  • I enjoy the podcasts and appreciate you fellas putting them together. I have attended a couple of your events and enjoyed them as well. I will put together a door prize or something for the next time I am able to attend one of your functions. I appreciate your dedication to the sport. Thank you for all that you do… Ken.
