FTF?

Since i found my First FTF i have to admit i have a FTF obsession. I have done the midnight run down a gravel road in a race to find some FTF’s, gone out of my way to beat anybody to the cache, taken time out of work the FTF, even to the point that i’ve found unpublished caches along a power trail because the reviewer didn’t publish all of them at once. Who else is obsessed with FTF’s?

Oh BTW 65 FTF’s!!!!

  • Nice, that’s a lot of FTF!!

I got obsessed when I had the chance to get my first FTF, which is one of your cache btw ;-). The one located in Ste-Marie. I had the wrong coordinates for the cache (the start of the trail waypoint one) and we searched for an half hour there. When i got back home, i realized the coordinates I had wasn’t the same with the one on top of the page. We got back in the car and drove there like crazy just to be sure nobody beated us to it. I didn’t knew when I started geocaching that there could be additionnal waypoints coordinates for caches haha. We have 275 finds so far, so we are getting more experience slowly but surely hehe.

New caches do not pop that often around here so it’s hard to get a lot of FTF, whenever possible I will rush to get one. It’s always a nice feeling logging a FTF.

just another part of the geocache addiction, also beware of the “I need a new GPS”, and the “I have to figure out this freekin’ puzzle”, they sneak up on you unawares, then KABOOM, full fledged addict.

  • I cant understand how qand why people get so obsessed about this hobby.

It is no big deal, dont let it get to you. You can conquer your obsessions

Oh did I mention that we have personalized licence plate GEOCACH and that it took us 3 weeks to get to Ottawa to visit our daughter and family (we found 650 caches on the way, and we cached 25 consecutive days, and we dragged Bernie from NB to gatineau with stops at 4 events on the way. But we are not obsessed. Oh did I mention the big Lobster TB we inherited at an event in QC and will be dragging it to all the events this summer, and did we mention we are gokng to the Mega in NS …etc.. but we are not obsessed

  • Haha, I remember reading that it was your job to geocache, so I have to agree with you that you are not obsessed. I have a lot of respect for people who take their work so seriously. Hopefully we will meet again in NS in July! Unless you get there late since it took you 25 days to get to Ottawa…

  • We have more than our share of FTF’s but the novelty has worn off. I remember getting 6 in a row on a series but to me that should only be one as who else really had a chance. Now on some of these new power series a cacher could get 20 to 100 FTF’s because they were there before what? How does this seem right and who tracks these things? There is no place in your cache info for it other than what you state! We plan on putting out a series in the near future containing upwards of 100 caches and be damned if one cacher claims FTF’s on all of them! There will be some stipulations on claims and if cachers don’t like them then simply don’t do them.
    FTF’s are simply a find!

  • FTF’s are cool but I am not going to go mad about them. Misha put out a series which was 7 or 8 caches I think and I got FTF’s on all of them. It was ok but nothing spectacular.

For me, it’s neat to get one once in awhile but I personally don’t get how some people can actually get MAD if they don’t get an FTF. It’s not that big a deal.

  • Well yeah if i miss a FTF no biggy it’s just a game. and i agree power caching FTF aren’t a fun or exciting as the odd one here or there. i think for me it’s the feeling of the race. of not knowing if someone been here before me. i always find the cache and get excited as i unroll or open the log for the first time. and the lack of signature is my way of winning the race.

  • That I can understand. There is a sort of thrill in knowing you are the first one to snag the cache. It’s only when it gets to be a bit obsessive that I wonder

Sometimes we are in the mood to chase FTFs and sometimes not. Lately, we have been going for some but it will probably wear off. We usually don’t go too far from home for them. There have been times that we have been heading to Moncton or Fredericton and new caches have been published so it has been a challenge to try and get a few in other cities. It adds a little excitement to the trip.

  • I’m in the “if it happens it happens” camp. I don’t go out of my way to find them but if I am to be in the area, then I’ll give it a shot. They have kinda lost their appeal to me when, as Viking43 said above, one person can do a power trail and nab a ton of FTFs.
