Geocaching in France

At one of the events this past weekend in Moncton, I spoke to local cachers PikiPik who told me a story about how the media in France had picked up on geocaching and ran a story on it. Since New Brunswick has many French speaking geocachers, I thought I would share the video that PikPik sent along. If I understood French, I’d be able to give a better summary. Perhaps someone could give a mini-translation in the comments. Thanks to PikPik for the link.

  • Nice hehe. I know the Acadie NOUVELLE newspaper here ran an article on geocaching a few years ago. My girlfriend work there and when she told a journalist about it he told her that he had written something about it. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen that article back then cause I’m sure we would had jumped on this great hobby sooner.

The video you posted Zor explains briefly what geocaching is about and they interview a few people during the segment. They say that you can get to caches not only on foot but by using a car and even a boat (hence why there is a boat shown at the beginning). They then explain that you have to enter coordinates, and head to the cache. Some cacher also explains that there are puzzles and multis. They make a few reference to it beeing a “treasure hunt”.

Hope it sums it up for you.
