Geocoin Challenges

Friday, me and Rev Slippery headed out of Moncton in an attempt to snag the 15 caches we needed for the 104th Regiment geocoin challenge series. Left the house at 8am and returned to Moncton by 4:30ish. Thankfully we had both snagged a couple the day before making our numbers a little less high to snag on a single day.

We left Moncton and snagged one there before heading out towards Jemseg and Gagetown where we grabbed the next set of caches. Not too long after that, we bolted for Hartland and worked our way back. We managed to grab all the caches from there back towards Fredericton, solving two puzzles in the process, and getting the 15 we needed for the series. What a great day of caching. A big thanks goes out to Ranger170 for setting up this series. I can’t even fathom the distance those guys had to walk.

Another coin series I did recently was one of Cache Up NB’s own. The Riverview Sunfest series came out a week or so ago and I went out that afternoon and snagged all six caches. As usual, this is a pretty easy series, but what surprised me the most was how many out of towners there were for this event.

Halifax, PEI, Campbelton, Miramichi, St. Stephen, and beyond. Many folks were out that day snagging the caches in hopes to get a coin. By the time the event wrapped up, there were 3 coins left of the 100 we started with. We’re definitely working with the town to get more coins for the future but this just goes to show how many people love to do this challenges.

Fredericton has their own series for a coin. Saint John does not currently have one but one is in the works (stay tuned later this summer for more on that), and Moncton has had something that last two years. Throw Fundy and Capturing The Bay into the mix and we’ve got a province filled with geocoin challenges.

For me, I love the fact that we live in a province where folks realize how amazing these programs are and have worked hard to make it happen. Here’s to hoping the trend continues.

  • $ 70 for gas, $ 20 lunch for two, $ 35 dinner for two, one free Riverview Summerfest geocoin, PRICELESS!!

  • Thanks Rev for the kind words. We are getting cachers from around the globe. Just read the logs for March ofNB 104th: The Colours and you’ll see what I mean. The latest was from the Netherlands. There’s just something about a pretty coin!
