Great Logs on our Puzzle caches

Lately I have been having trouble finding places to hide our Logic puzzle caches.  I guess it is because I have over 60 of them hid and because I am a little fussy.  I want to hide these micros in a place that is easily accessible and where the cache is easy to spot but away from muggles.  I also do not want to hide puzzles in places that would be ideal for a traditional cache. I have also been striving to  hide them close to Moncton so that they would accessible to more cachers. There seem to be less and less places available.

As a result, I usually have a  bunch of logic puzzles prepared but few places to hide them.  But a solution to this problem surfaced.  Some of our Micro Logic caches have begun appearing in the Saint John area. To explain how that came about, here is a log from one of the caches.

We are claiming this cache as a find with Pa’s permission.
When we attended a breakfast event in Moncton, Pa mentioned that
he had some MicroLogics ready to publish but was wondering where
to place them. We offered to find him a location but then he made us
do the “puzzle trial”. Thank goodness we didn’t fail the test.
Thanks for the brain work out Pa, and for placing a couple of your
great MicroLogics in our area.
Who knows, maybe there will be more!

*******************************

Here is the information we posted on the cache page.

A big Thank You to Team BikeFast for their help with the cache placement and for testing the puzzle for us. As a reward we will not allow them to get FTF and we will be putting them in charge of cache maintenance.

Yes Thanks to Team Bike Fast there are now 6 Micro Logic caches in the Saint John area.  There have been some great logs on these caches and I wanted to share with all of you.

You will see that there are some very avid cachers in the area and some avid puzzle people. You will also see that some of them have a great sense of humor.

I also want to point out  that we did not offer or provide help to anyone in solving these puzzles.  It is clear however that there was some group solving of the puzzles and also that some solvers brought other cachers to claim the cache.  We have no problem with this because in our minds, geocaching is about teamwork, socializing, camaraderie and adventure.

OK so here are the logs. Enjoy

Thanks for another great puzzle cache Ma & Pa and another FTF.
I noticed this one pop up and right away got a hold of Ze before he got home and told him to stop in as there was another Puzzle to solve. After solving it away we went to capture it. It was a challenge to get in the dark.

I had just left work when I called Ajlong and he tells me if I was ready to go get a new cache in Saint John and of course I said ‘Sure!’.
The bugger then tells me ‘But you have to solve it first!’. Ahh nasty putting up my expectations like that.
A quick drive to his place and we worked feverishly on it. I was still hot after ML60 so I knew what to do with it this time and I was prepared.
Didnt take long before some serious numbers came up and the geochecker confirmed that the math was good.
Got on the cachemobile and drove back to Saint John to claim the FTF on this one.
The location of the cache surprised us a bit, not your usual park and grab micrologic cache.
Thanks Ma&Pa for the mental exercise and keep them coming.

Oh my goodness! Well, after totally wasting two days with stacks of scribbled paper… and what do we have to show for it? Well, all the things that didn’t get done… and a wonderful little green checkmark to show we found (finally!!!) the right coordinates! ….. So imagine the profound disappointment when the first solution didn’t work! Throw in the towel, throw our hands up in disgust, and go back to the drawing board! But… with all those little numbers dancing in our heads we had to keep going. After all, by then we’d exhausted so many possibilities there wasn’t much left! Did we have fun? Well, are root canals fun? Better than a root canal! And the satisfaction of a find! But we’re hesitant to say “keep ’em coming”. Nothing in this house will get done if you do, and the Department of Health will close us down! Thanks, Pa!

I have to agree this was a toughie, hard to even figure out how to start. Then after getting the glorious check mark, you get to the cache site and wonder, can this be right, well checker confirmed co ordinates, so must be right. Enjoyed the puzzle and the mini hike, thanks Ma & Pa and Team Bike fast for expanding these ML’s to Saint John.

Quick solve on a fairly easy puzzle…not! Like TRH&SG, 1st attempt at a solve came up with some workable, but incorrect, numbers. Decided to put it aside for a few days, but this one was just begging to be solved. Went back at it again tonight and came up with the green check mark. Whew! After all that work couldn’t wait till morning, calmenite & I were soon foraging in the dark for the prize. Took us about 15 minutes of fumbling around in the dark but we did get it. Interesting location – as noted already, not your usual P&G. Thanks for the two kinds of workout and keep ’em coming – I think

Thanks for another great puzzle cache Ma & Pa
When I saw this one pop up on the screen I whisked off an email to Ze and asked him if he got it and got no reply I had to resort to a phone call. The Lady answered and said she was on the computer. I got her to ask Ze if he got the Puzzle yet and I heard him say “what Puzzle?” Then I heard her say that she still had 10 minutes of computer time left. I knew then that there would be a problem in the household so I said good-bye
Just a little while later I got a call from Ze saying are you ready to go caching tonight. I reply “I sure am, I need one more cache to make 25 for the day”, so off we went.”
It was a hard find in the dark.

March 17 by ZeMartelo (1435 found)

Finally a cache that gets published when I am home.
Me and AjLong solved this one quickly and we were out looking for it and managed to to get FTF.
Thanks Pa for putting out an easier Micrologic puzzle, after solving ML60 I was not ready for another tough one.
It was fun, keep them coming.

Found about the cache this morning and got it solved quickly and was able to get it this evening.
I was surprised to find about a MicroLogic puzzle in Rothesay, what can I say Ma&Pa are going global.
As usual had fun solving the puzzle and was happy for a quick find too, it was cold, when is spring coming??
Thanks for the fun.

March 3 by lostinNB (707 found)

Couldn’t sleep, so came down to check email, noticed a new cache. Worked out the solution, then had to wait for Mrs. LostinNB (she has the eye for Micros) to wake up before heading to the cache. This is my first Micro Logic puzzle, thanks Ma&Pa for bringing them to Saint John.

Awful, awful, awful,,, that’s the only way to describe this one! But a lifeline was used and the nut was cracked! Teamed up with Triple Trouble for the find. We had to do a little stealthy searching, since a runner was first resting and then running, looking at us mighty strangely, but we were patient and easily found the cache once he was on his way. Thanks for the fun, and thanks to the lifeline!

Geochecker said i was wrong but it seemed like a good spot and was easy to get to so i decided to check anyway. As luck would have it i managed to come up with a find. Nice spot here. TFTC

Phone rings. It’s Calmen. “I’m getting in the truck now… Are you coming?”

I’ve missed my caching buddy this last week, so despite the fact I was settling in for a nap, I was grabbing the GPSr before I’d hung up the phone. This was our first cache of the afternoon, and I’m pleased I didn’t slow Calmen down too much. The log sheet was blank when we found it.

March 13 by calmen (370 found)

Took a crack at solving the puzzle once I saw that others had it with seemingly little difficulty. Solved it reasonably quickly, although I had a couple red lights on the geochecker at first. Doesn’t help when you write down “+” where the cache page says “x”. I seem to be doing more of that kind of thing lately. Maybe I’m the one that’s getting old, eh, KJ?

Trails? Who needs trails? The quickest way to a cache is straight to it as the crow flies…..right? LOL! Had great fun finding this one; nice evening “stroll” to GZ with KJ. Thanks for another MicroLogic puzzle down this way! Keep ’em coming!

March 13 by kj-mclean (325 found)

Logged this one this evening with “Cross-Country Calmen.” Need I say more?

Thanks for the cache. It’s a beautiful spot!

Quick stop tonight to get it… its kinda creepy in the dark around here.
Had fun with the puzzle and finding the cache in the dark. Keep them coming.

Thanks for another great Puzzle Ma and Pa.
We managed to get another FTF and FTS on it.
We took the hilly way in and out again. It is a really nice spot down in there; it probably is a lot nicer in the summer when all the leaves are out. Then there all the bugs to consider.

March 12 by jdcb (560 found)

noticed this when I was at work today. Tried to do it there. Came home and rushed through the puzzle. Figured it out and confirmed the numbers right the first time. Rushed to the cache with Lil Boo in tow hoping to grab a first to find with her. Nope, I was beaten to it and the person signed the time, they found it just about the exact same time that I noticed it was published. Oh well, it’s a great spot for a cache.

We have an interesting story about  Team BikeFast concerning our ML60 in Moncton. It is a toughie and has a lot of cachers baffled. Apparently The Mr BikeFast was busy doing renovation work at home and couldn’t help the Mrs solve the puzzle. So she had to work on it  all by herself. But with lots of hard work, the puzzle got solved.  So now she is sitting in Saint John with the answer to a tough Moncton puzzle and there have been no other green check marks on the geochecker and her caching pard is upstairs tearing apart the bathroom.  But I soon get an email that says:

March 16 by Team BikeFast (2430 found)

It just doesn’t get much better than this. A first to
solve and a FTF!
That was a toughie.
Thanks for another brain bender!

And here is the final log for the cache.

March 19 by incepit (7990 found)

I had ignored this one a while, hoping it would go away, but with it now sitting on my list for a while and my wife away, I decided to have a look. After being over-whelmed for a little bit, I made a realization, and boom, figured it out quite quickly. Ran out this morning to grab it after taking junior to school. Thanks for the puzzle and the cache.

  • Well our latest Logic Puzzle just came out this morning in Rothesay.
I have no more puzzles in queue and have no ideas at this moment.

I am just waiting for the logs on the new one. I hope I dont ruin Sunday for a bunch of Saint Johners.

  • Now how did I forget this Albert County log

I’m sorry everyone, but reading these logs again brings tears to my eyes!
More fun than the solving 😉
