Long forgotten Caches

I know that some of us like to go after some old caches that have not been found in years, or that have only very few smileys. I don’t think that it’s possible to do queries for all caches that haven’t been found in the last year, or the last 6 yrs or whatever. I don’t think that it’s possible to do queries that would get the caches that only received a few smileys in many years of being out.

I am not sure how we could start such a list, but I would very much like to see one. I will start this thread with a few, and if you know any, perhaps you can add them here. I will leave it to Zor to decide if this should be on a post like this one or with another format. Any comments or ideas? Do you even like the idea?

Here are a few:
GCHG3E- Bartibog Bay Island – Placed in 2004 and only 2 smileys (2004 and 2008)
GCMFA3 – Sheldrake Island – Placed in 2005 and only 3 cachers found it (but a cacher claimed it 4 times)
GC2E7AM – Can you cache a wolf? – Placed in August 2010, only one find
GC123NG – OUTER WOOD ISLAND INDIAN CAVE – Placed in 2007 and was never found

  • Was tempted to go after that one on Grand Manan and headed there in March but don’t think it’s the right time of year to look for it by the log

  • We were planning to canoe to Sheldrake and Bartibog Bay Island last summer but ran out of time so they are on our ‘To Do List’ for the summer of 2012. Maybe it’s time to put out a couple of 5/5’s on each of the islands to attract some of those Come Out & Play Contestants.

Here some more long forgotten caches in the Miramichi area:

    1. This one’s for Cache Jordan! GCKW11 Found once in 2004 and again in 2005. A DNF recorded by us in 2011.

    2. This one is for Jim52! GCKW13 Found 5 times prior to 2008 and no activity until 2011 when two cachers reported DNF’s (we were one of them)

    3. Rainy Day Cache GCZ015 This Rogersville area cache had 11 finds prior to 2008 and only us visiting since then in 2011 to record a DNF. We are not sure if the cache is still active because of the large amount of overgrowth but we plan to revisit in the summer now that we got some information from Ma (of the Ma & Pa duo). We will be carrying lots of supplies for maintenance if the need arises.

  • I’ve been trying to target caches that haven’t been found in more than a year. Went out one day last summer and got 3 or 4, dedicated the day to just those caches. I grabbed a pocket query, and used GSAK, filtered by last found date.

  • The Grand Manaan one is of great interest…I am also thinking March might be early…good luck Madpuck if you get there first.
