Re-occuring Events

I was talking with another cacher in Western Canada the other night and they commented they were going to their first event Tuesday, they were nervous and with them being female nervous about being the only female attending.  So I went to check out the will attends and there were other females attending putting her at ease.

But I noticed that there were nearly 700 attended logs and went to check it out further.  I found out this is a monthly event just like our Monthly Breaky events but they never archive this one and have a new one published for the coming month.  It must be hard to track the numbers attending each month or maybe they don’t really care as Tuesday nights are probably a slow night for the establishment.

My question is – what is your opinion?  Does it really matter if a new event listing for re-occuring events are published?

  • Some people would have many logs on the same cache. The MGA tried this in May because he forgot to submit it in time, by “re-using” the April listing but it ended up being cancelled, which in my opinion is better. I don’t want multiple logs on the same event but ultimately does it really matter? I prefer to have accurate numbers others just prefer numbers.

  • I agree, I think it would disenchant people from logging their will attends if they are regulars

  • I tend to agree with Rev on this one.

If you had the same event listing all the time for re-occurring events then your stats would show that you have multiple logs on the same cache. For me, I don’t like my stats saying that I logged the same cache more than once, even when it is legit.

  • We also don’t like to have more than one found/attended log for a a cache or an event.

This reminds me of the events out in places in USA where temporary caches are hidden at the event site. If you find 10 temporary caches, you could log he event 10 additional times. I recall seeing one where there were about 80 temporary caches.

Link to Wisconsin discussion where it is common to have hundreds of ATTENDED logs for events
