Seeking volunteers for impromptu CITO – CANCELLED

(This impromptu event has now been CANCELLED. Please see the comments for details)

Almost two years ago I hid a series of 103 caches called The Story Teller series. The caches have remained since then but many of them now are in poor shape and have been somewhat haphazardly maintained by myself and the local caching community. Folks who have been out caching and have found them in disrepair have been kind enough to fix them up, but over time, I have felt a bit embarrassed by the low quality of the containers I chose for this series. So that having been said, I have decided to archive them.

I disabled the entire series (the ones that are still active, 98 I believe) and had intended to start going out and picking them up. but with a series that large (I hid them over two weekends), it would take me awhile to go out and do them myself. I am therefore seeking volunteers to go out this Sunday (January 15th) at 9am and do a CITO of my series.

I’m looking to get a group of cachers together and we all meet at the Five Points Church near Salisbury (N  46° 1.307 W 65° 1.041) at 9am. I would then divvy out “sections” of the series for people to go out and find and retrieve. Each car/group can go out, find and retrieve the caches for their section(s), and then we can all meet back up at the DQ near the Big Stop when we are done.

If you are interested in coming, please comment on this post or send me an email directly. The more volunteers we have, the less time it will take. Plus, for anyone who has not found these caches, this will be your last chance.

For those who do plan on coming out, I recommend you run a pocket query using the bookmark I have linked above and download it to your GPS. Even if you have found the caches, it would be a good idea to have the cache locations already loaded on your GPS. I will provide cache lists for everyone as well as garbage bags for the old containers.

Whether you show up or not, the series is going to be archived so I would greatly appreciate it if you have the time, to come out and help take some geotrash out of the woods and make room for better caches. Thanks

  • I found 50 of those caches with paulie777 shortly after you published them on what is still to this day my best ever day of caching. I was even more of a newbie back then than I am now.

I’m going to be out of town this weekend or else I would join you. Good luck.

  • 55 of these caches have now been archived thanks to Team Bikefast and KFDCanada who went out yesterday and found them and retrieved the containers for me. Thanks for helping out and doing your part to remove what could have become geotrash.

  • I have been told by Team Bikefast that they and KFDCanada will be going out tomorrow to snag the rest of these. HUGE thanks to them for grabbing these caches.

Also, a big thanks to everyone else out there who has done this series.

  • Well, after me figuring out how to load only the remaining caches in the PQ that were not already archived in my GPS. Oh well.
I know Team Bikefast and KFDCanada do not have the series done so it is to their benefit to get these caches before they are gone for good. But it’s still nice to see them go out of their way to collect all the cache containers and spare anyone else the time to do it. Way to go.
A big thanks to Zor for his time and effort to place this series. I remember doing the whole thing in a few trips. This was my first ” cache run “. I do believe I got 25 or 26 FTF’s on this series as well. Thanks.

  • With that series cleaned out, I will probably head out that way and grab some of the caches I have not found. I actually have a few ideas for some new caches with FAR better containers so I can probably re-use a lot of that territory

  • Wow, sad to see this serie go but I can understand you Zor. I would hate it if any of my caches would turn into geotrash. I remember a post around last year having you wondering if it was time to pull the plug or not. They still lasted a good time given that.

I’ll remember this serie for one thing, we spent a really nice day me, my sister and the kid of a friend there. She works in Alberta so we don’t meet up and go out caching as much as we’d like. This is what I like about geocaching, you turn a normal day into a day you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

Thanks for hiding this, it must have been a lot of work. I can tell you I did really enjoyed the ~50 caches I got from this serie.
