When No News Is Good News

With the warmer temperatures hitting most New Brunswicker’s, it’s been a little slow on the news and commentary front. In fact, I think this is the longest dip we’ve had here on Cache Up NB in a long time. A few little minor conversations going on here and there, but by far and large, it’s been pretty quiet. I can’t recall the last time I had five articles in a row on here.

The reality is, summer time is a busy time for everyone. I’ve been hearing tales of various folks going out and snagging caches here and there. Personal vacations, and work schedules have been keeping many others busy. On top of that, this time of  year is literally the busiest for vacations so it’s no wonder that things have been a bit slow. For myself, my schedule has been so crazy lately that me and Rev both opted to skip doing the podcast this month purely because of lack of time and the low period right now. Don’t worry. It will return next month as there will be plenty to talk about.

Cache Up NB does have at least one new event in the queue which we should see published shortly. Rev Slippery will be providing all of the details of the event and the new geocoin challenge the event is kicking off. It’s something a bit different than what we have seen before so stay tuned for more details.

In other news, EvulC has been hard at work doing some major code hacking behind the scenes. In the not so distant future, you’ll see some further integration of Cache Up NB with www.geocaching.com. As an official partner of theirs, we’ve been playing around quite a bit with access to their API and the results have been pretty cool. In a nutshell, the API allows a web developer a certain amount of access to all of the geocache data found in their database. A programmer can write a piece of code that uses that information in different ways. One such example is how we are able to retrieve information about a geocache when a GC code is displayed. When you hover over GCBBA (or any other GC code shown on Cache Up NB), our site connects to geocaching.com, and uses the API to retrieve information about that geocache by looking it up in their database through the use of the API. We can then display that information for you. Our new integration takes that a step further. Details will be made available soon.

It’s a slow time of year here but with all the good weather, people are out enjoying the sun and the outdoors. Hopefully everyone is having a good summer and getting some caching in.
