Capturing the Bay coin challenge

As some of you may have seen there is a new coin challenge afoot. While Zor and I were in Fundy park for the event in May, Robyn the park employee we deal withย  asked us if we would be interested in working on a project that involved the four major attractions along the Bay of Fundy north coast. Of course we said yes and she said she would look into it and get back to us. Well she got back to us about two weeks ago asking if we could have an event and 8 caches ready for the August long weekend. It would be tight but I said yes as Zor is too busy being a jet setter and traveling all over the globe, I would be handling it all my self. The event, GC3QGT0 is now published and is being held at the Cape Enrage Adventure facility.

The Challenge aspect of this is a little different than what we have seen in the past, it may and for most will take more than one day to accomplish although I hid them all in a little under 9 hours and finding them will be a bit quicker unless you stop to find other caches along the way, then it will take days or weeks even. The theme is capturing the scenic vistas at the four locations with your camera and reporting to each place to get the photos verified and your passport validated at each location. Yes this will cost you entry fees at each place but you get the benefit of exploring and enjoying each of these awesome places and get a really nice trackable coin to boot. Please take your time and enjoy this challenge don’t rush it.

The system they are putting in place to get you your coin is the easiest way for them to do it and it will save you time and money as well. Where ever you finish you will turn in your completed passport and they will contact Robyn at Fundy National Park who will in turn mail you your coin at no cost to you. There are 150 coins and if it is successful they will consider doing it again, so if you like it let them know! The caches are in place and will be published, hopefully on August 3rd. They should all be quick finds with nice views. Each listing will have the specific directions for how to get you passport validated at each place, they may be different not sure what they are doing on that end. Any questions, ask away, I might even be able to answer some of them.

  • Thanks for all the work Ken. Lets hope it works out.

This reminds me of the old days of caching where enjoying the sights was more important than the find.

  • Sounds like fun. Can a seasons pass be bought for all these parks to save having to pay every time?

  • For the Fundy Trail, you can purchase a multi-day pass which gives you 2 days entrance during the season. You can go back and take a picnic, do the other caches, check out the history and visit the Cookhouse, Interpretive Centre and various look outs if you are in a hurry the first time through.

  • Everyone has different financial situations and they have to decide what is best for them. If it is a per person cost, a couple or family would have to try to figure the best way to do it. Maybe some will decide that their money should go elsewhere.

  • If Ma & Pa and I were to go together, I would ask Pa to get in the trunk of the car and I could tell the person at the gate that Ma is my younger sister. Not like i’m going to ask Pa to get in the trunk when we leave, he could get in, in Sussex if going to the Fundy Trail Pkwy. Ah then again, I guess he would be worth paying $4.50. It’s a small price to pay for his company and stories ๐Ÿ™‚

Come out, it is going to be fun. You can soak up all that each site has to offer with your entrance fees and take a couple of weekends to complete the event. The coin is quite unique. Ken, is there a way we can post an image to show folks?
    I’m excited!

      • I am very much looking forward to this! I haven’t been to Cape Enrage nor Hopewell Rocks in years. I always seem to be going the other way. I have asked a co-worker to trade me the day of the event with the hopes that he will. If not, I will make the treks alone, but am hoping to share the gas portion with 5Beaver ;-).

Thank you Ken & Rpbyn for all the work that went (is going) into this challenge.

        Happy Caching everyone!

  • We went to the event today and got the caches at 3 of the parks. The event was great and was well organized. The caches were in nice locations and the staff at the 3 spots were very cooperative and chatty with regard to the whole geocaching idea.

Thanks to Robyn and Rev and everyone else involved

  • Let me 2nd PA’s comments regarding the organization, the staff, the locations of the caches – what a great example of a way to have fun and get excerise too. I, Night, am burnt to a crisp and Blossom is still grinning ear to ear from her first experience of zip lining too bad Snake9 ‘dumped’ EBE or it looks like he would have joined REV and Blossom in the fun. What a great day! Thank you everyone.

  • I got call from Robyn at Fundy National Park today and the coins are delayed by a month so you can expect them around September 10th.

  • We finished the challenge this weekend but didn’t realize we were to leave the completed page at the park, does anyone know where we should mail it to?
