Bye Bye Winter Weekend Info/Events

All 5 of the events for our Bye Bye Winter Weekend here in Fredericton are now published. We’re having 5 different events April 10-11th in the Fredericton area to say “see ya” to ol’ man winter and to welcome spring to the area. On Saturday we’re having a CITO event (we’ve adopted a section of highway), a Flash Mob event, the main event – the BBW Bash potluck/BBQ, followed by the Night Cap event (demo and hunt for night caches). On Sunday we have our Hellooo Spring Brunch to wrap everything up and fuel up for a day of caching or travel.

Everyone is welcome, the  more the merrier. The Ramada (where the Brunch is being held) has offered a group rate of 95.00 per night for Friday and Saturday night for participants. Just mention the Fredericton Region Geacachers. There are also lots of other accomodations in town.

Our Winter Challenge has resulted in over 340 (so far) new winter friendly caches in the area so there is a lot of caching to be done! Some are singles, some are small series and some are longer series/hikes with 20-30-40 caches. Something for everyone.

The events/info/GC codes are as follows:

BBW Cito (GC24GFZ)
– start time 10:00 am
– Lincoln Rd from the airport to where Rte 655 intersects the 102
– for safety reasons (as per DOT) participants must be 12 years of age or older
– garbage bags will be provided but bring your own gloves and litter-picker-upper tools (try the Dollar store)

BBW Flash Mob (GC243KH)
– 2:00 – 2:15 pm
– City Hall
– wear a blue hat

BBW Bash Potluck/BBQ (GC248KC)
– 5:00 – 8:00 pm
– Odell Park lodge
– potluck – see the cache page for info or to post what you’re bringing/supplying
– cutlery, plates, cups, etc will be provided
– coin/TB table for discovering/trading, also if any NB Challenge coins left they may be purchased
– prizes for the Winter Challenge will be awarded
– lots of door prizes for all participants
– 50/50 draw to help cover the cost of the lodge

BBW Night Cap ( GC247MX)
– start 8:30 pm
– Killarney Lake
– bring a flashlight and a buddy if you’re afraid of the dark!

Hellooo Spring Brunch (GC24AY8)
– 9:00 – 11:00 am
– The Courtyard at the Ramada
– brunch buffet
– $13.99 per person, plus tax and gratuity
– kids under 10 eat free (one per adult), ages 10 -12 eat for 1/2 price

We're milosheart, also known as Gwen & Terry LeBlanc. We're from Fredericton and have been involved with geocaching since March 2008. When we started caching we each had our own accounts/names. He was Frogger57 and I was milosheart. milo is a nickname of Terry's (from a song he messed up the words to) and, well, I'm his heart (we're still on our honeymoon, 6 yrs on). He logged his first 19 caches then gave up. He loves to go caching, loves the driving, travelling, meeting fellow cachers, searching and finding but could care less about the logging, planning, numbers, etc. He doesn't know how to use the GPS and has no desire to learn, doesn't have a clue what GSAK is, nor care. I love him more for just going with me, blindly sometimes! LOL So we just continued on using my original account and became team milosheart. We cache here in Freddy Beach, Moncton (Terry's hometown), Saint John (my sister and fellow cacher, eebee, lives there) and just about anywhere else we go. Yes, we are addicted. Happily.

  • Sounds incredible. Sounds like a lot of fun. As usual the freddy area cachers are well organized

    Our preliminary plan is to head to Freddy on he friday and do some caching and then participate in most of the events.

    I am working that weekend and will be away out of town the following 2 weekends, so no chance of me getting away 3 weekends in a row.

  • OK we are going to be there for all the events

    We reserved HOJO on Prospect for CAA rate of $74 including pool and Breakfast.
