How Important Is Geocaching To You

Those who have read my many posts here know that we take many geocaching trips and that we try to include some geocaching in our non-caching trips. We are retired and a lot of what we do revolve around geocaching. As I have said many times, geocaching is not only looking for a cache. It is so much more. It seems that many feel that way.

We couldn’t have this wonderful hobby if there were not people all over the world willing to spend time hiding caches for us to find. We got a wonderful log on our caches today that reminds us how important caching is to some of us. It is from two ladies from Ontario who are here on a caching vacation. We hope to meet them

Am visiting NB from Ottawa with my sister cleo23 and her two granddaughters, Katiekins and Reysecakes. We are beyond excited. This trip was planned solely because of Ma & Pa’s micrologic puzzles; love the series. We have done all the ones in the Gatineau area, and just wanted more. Of course our husbands who are not geocachers think that we should be committed, but, we made it our goal to complete all the ML puzzles and then save up for this trip. For us, this is an event of a life-time. This is our third ML on this trip; soooooo exciting, we could hardly contain ourselves. We approached this one from the wrong direction originally; way to dangerous for a couple of old ladies with their two young granddaughters. Had to pull cleo23 down, she was so gung-ho to try and climb the cliff to get this cache. We took an easier route in and after 20 minutes or so searching, found the little hider; what a thrilling moment. Glad to report everyone made it back to the car safe and sound. This cache gave us lots to recount and chatter about for miles; loved the challenge. Also, was great when we finally did find it, to see the new log. We know we will probably have some DNF’s, but we were so glad we were able to find this one. We have never seen this part of Canada, so it is wonderful to get the chance. Thanks Ma & Pa for putting this great series out and for adding so much fun to not only our day, but our lives. Also for my sister, cleo23 to be able to have this trip with her two young granddaughters, who are 10 and 12 is wonderful. Special, love filled thanks to my most favorite sister, Libby, for all of her hard work getting everything organized for this trip; totally awesome; love you much. Ma & Pa, we will always remember this trip and all the fun you have added to our lives; saying thanks just doesn’t seem adequate. Cheers, happy caching. SL

  • One part of Geocaching that has surpassed my expectations has been the consistency of cachers in general and their openness to meet, help, support and more to others already in the sport and those looking to get into it. I have messaged several cachers for a variety of reasons, also from several different countries and have always been greeted with open arms and a welcoming attitude. I have found this most satisfying especially when it comes to travelling to strange places. It sure eases the nerves going into those areas with a better comfort level but also attending events not feeling quite like the stranger that I would be otherwise.

  • Here is an update to our initial post.

The two ladies from Ontario showed up at our place with two young grandaughters who are here caching with them. It was a wonderful visit. A great example of what caching is all about. There are no better people than caching people.

  • I actually ran into them at a cache near Caraquet, while I was caching my way up to Miscou Island from Bathurst on July 26. They told me they were on vacation from Quebec City. Never did catch their names.

  • How important is geocaching to me, i would have to say that it is a huge part of my life. I have met many good people geocaching. I eat sleep and crave geocaching. When on the computer i always have at least two geocaching tabs open. Geocaching is very important to me!!!!!!!

  • Well here is the conclusion to the story of the two ladies from Ontario who came to NB with their grand daughters to do the rest of the Micro Logics after doing the ones in the Ottawa/Gatineau area. I thought they would be simply doing the ones in the Moncton area but they have also logged the ones in Saint John and Shippagan. I checked their logs and they also did some other puzzles including some Olewaif puzzles on PEI. It seems like they have had a great trip. It feels good to read stories from cachers who get such enjoyment from this hobby.

Here is their log for the Micro Logic in Shippagan.

WOW WOW WOW. This is the last micrologic that we did on our NB’s ma & pa caching trip. My sister, cleo23, her two granddaughters, Katiekin and Reysecakes and I, buddysally, planned this trip about a year ago. We live in Ottawa and Sudbury, and had previously done all ma & pa’s micrologic puzzles in the Ottawa and Gatineau area. We enjoyed them so much that we decided to do all the NB ones too, and plan a trip around them; which is exactly what we did. We had to jump through many hoops and find creative ways to get around barriers, but it all came together and the trip was on!!!! My sister, cleo23, left her home in St. Charles (near Sudbury) on July 31st. and arrived here in Ottawa to pick me up. From here, we went to Russell, Ontario and picked up her two granddaughters and then started on this exciting journey. When we did the first micrologic on this trip, we were all jumping and squealing with joy; soooo exciting. This was the last one that we did and again the air was full of our squeals of joy, and we were all doing our crazy happy dances. We now have completed and found all the current micrologics (well over 130). We are only missing two; one was a DNF and the other is on an island, that we couldn’t get access to. This is a once in a life time achievement for us; something off our bucket list. Can’t believe we got it all done; we were flying!!!! We travelled over 4500 miles to get this completed; but it was sooooooo worth it. This whole trip has been one of the highlights of my life. There are no words; how can we ever express to ma & pa how much all there hard work in putting out and maintaining these puzzles has meant to us; thanks for the caches, just doesn’t seem adequate. We also had the opportunity to meet ma and pa in person and enjoy a wonderful barbeque at thier home and also to meet their two grandsons, Ben and Jake. Wonderful, awesome, fantastic experience. We will always cherish this trip. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING.

Katiekin found ML114 Long Addition Moncton (Unknown Cache) at 8/3/2012

I am Katiekin. I am visiting NB to do ma & pa’s puzzles, mostly micrologics with my grammy, auntie Kim and sister. We drove a long way, and stopped for lots of snacks and breaks. I love caching and try to run out and get them first, but Auntie Kim says I have to wait till the car stops before getting out. The trees are prickly, but I am having lots of fun finding the caches and seeing how beautiful NB is. It has lots of hills and trees. Thanks for putting out these fun puzzles and caches. SL

We went for dinner with ma and pa and their two grandsons; pa is a really good cook and we ate chocolate bars too which were good. They have a really nice house and we took pictures. We all had fun meeting ma and pa. Great hide, TFTC SL
