Moncton’s Race For Cache 2012 – Don’t Miss Out
It’s now less than two weeks before the Moncton’s Race For Cache event takes place in, if you can imagine this, Moncton.
This is the fifth year this event has run and this year will once again see the odd task from years past resurface, with several brand new ones to keep participants interested. Given that it is the fifth year for this event, we’ve had a geocoin minted and it can be purchased either at the event, or afterwards through myself.
For those unfamiliar with the race for cache, the premise is very similar to the television show The Amazing Race. Teams of geocachers all start at Bore Park in Moncton at 1pm. Each team is provided a starting clue which directs them to some place in the greater Moncton area. Each stop they make they obtain a new clue and move on to the next location. Teams are not told the name of the location, but merely receive hints in the clue, as well as GPS coordinates.
Like last year, there are no physical geocaches to be found in this year’s race. Instead, it’s a combination of obtaining information from specific locations, or performing certain tasks. This year we have tried very hard to come up with some new and interesting tasks that will make racers both squirm and laugh. This is the first year we will be having a water based task where one team member must be able to swim. We’ve also got a task inspired by the TV show Minute To Win It, some tasks that test your accuracy and your sweet tooth. Lastly, our famous roadblock from year three has returned so those who ran the race that year, be prepared for the past to repeat itself.
All teams score points and race to the finish line at Centennial Park where we have a big BBQ for everyone to feast on and we announce the winners and hand out door prizes & trophies.
If you haven’t already signed up, head on over to www.monctonsraceforcache.com and register a team. Registration is required to attend and there is a $5 per person fee which covers admin costs as well as the food at the BBQ. Geocoins are $10 each and can be ordered through team registrations.
Anyone wishing to attend the BBQ but not the race itself is more than welcome to but I would request you log a Will Attend to let me know. It is a potluck event (the BBQ portion) so I provide hotdogs, hamburgers, and drinks for all the racers. Any other food you would like to contribute is appreciated. I also welcome any door prize donations people may have for the event. We have some to give away but it’s always nice to have more.
Whether it’s just a couple of cachers or an entire family, come on out and enjoy Moncton’s largest annual geocaching event and see if you can claim the winning trophy.
Will the coin be available to purchase for those not participating in the race?

This appears to be happening on the 11th as well.
Hope its not conflicting. :-\
We are aware and were already talking to them about that, we are actually going to be sending a few geocachers over to do a short demo and take some of them out to find a couple. I will be looking for some of our seasoned geocachers to go over to help around 6pm-7pm. They will be turning right before the Rotary Lodge and camping over in the big open area Overlooking the lake.
perfect rev, thanks!
We are really looking forward to this years race!!!!
Hey Zor, I found a big inflatable pool we can fill with oil for the “Wrestle Rev or Nemo” task!
LOL…now that’s something to look forward to!
Man! The hardest part of this task is how do I choose???
We had an awesome time at yesterdays race. We were thrilled to hear that we WON! Great job Zor…we are looking forward to next years race 🙂
There were an incredible number of smiling faces yesterday. So many happy people. Word is spreading. We may have a MEGA in the works. Not that I would wish that amount of work on anyone
